Re: Mohamed Drager

I’m not unhappy with Tutu & Back.
Priority for me is not another right back.
Just inflating an already bloated squad.
Quality - not quantity - please.

Back is a complete rookie and tutu is injury prone. That is not a great situation to be in, in my opinion. If Tutu wasn’t injury prone than maybe we’d be okay. It’s embarrassing that we need another right back but that’s the situation the club is in.

A bit extreme I know, but after some consideration, I've decided not to write-off this lad until I've extended him the courtesy of at least seeing him play.

No that’s a given but you have to understand people’s reactions when signing players from Oly football wise has never worked for us. Surely you can understand that sentiment?

Kapino we got on a free and sold for about a million.
Tachtsidis we got on a free and sold for about a million.
Ansarifard we got on a free, when he played he did well enough, again sold on for good money.
Bouch did well enough, dropped a bit of a bollock by all accounts by not persisting with him.
Cafu has been an ok squad player for us.

We have mainly used Oly to shift contracts and to help balance our books. Pretty much everyone we have had from them have been frees or loans to help plug gaps in the squad and I doubt any break the bank wages wise.

But bar that, none of them have worked out.

It would be interesting to know the exact figures, obviously contracts cost allot of money, but to compare that to the fairly nominal fees would be intriguing.

For instance Kapino was sold for £500k I think, so he would have to be on less than £9.6k p/w for us to make any sort of profit.

**Figures are estimates only assuming 500k sale and 52 weeks being at the club**

People are entitled to their opinions Emmo, that doesn't mean I have to "understand" how they formed them.

I can honestly say that I've never made a judgement about a player without seeing him play, and preferably more than once.

However you can not be excited by a transfer if the transfer is picked from a stable of players that have proven to be disappointing. Of course we will never know 100% if this player will be poor or not just because we’ve been bitten every time football wise I’m not excited by this. Of course I will support him and hope he is a good player and we won’t know until we see him. I think that’s a balanced view of the situation.

Kapino and Tachtaidis weren’t sold for a million each however they did make us profits. That’s why I picked my words carefully and said “football wise”. Financial wise we’ve had 2 great signings however football wise not been great. Bouchalakis in my view was poor, Cafu is pretty average and Ansafarid missed some sitters. Maybe Ansarfarid may have been better with time but from what I have seen all Oly players did not meet up to their squad expectations.

Re: Mohamed Drager

As long as its not been done over Murphy's head, then its not the worst as short term cover. I just hope that this isn't someone making a transfer decision without our CEO's say so.

That's a fair point Ash, but considering Murphy's experience and knowledge of German football, it's highly probable that he knows all about this lad and signed it off.

Hopefully. One of the new recruitment team (Syrianos?) might know him from his time in the Bundesliga too.

Re: Mohamed Drager

This seems like decent business. Tutu has pringles for hamstrings, Gabriel looks like being sold. Back and Richardson, I think, have more potential than Gabriel but we need some cover.

Free transfer, reasonable player that won’t be on silly wages and still at a good age. We could well be selling him on in 6-12 months at a profit

No real risk and positives outweigh the negatives

Kapino was sold after six months, not a year (same as Tachtsidis, sold for the same price). And all the players you got from us were on significantly less than £10k p/w. There's no question that, financially-wise, you have benefited from the movement between the two clubs, just as there is no question that you haven't football-wise.

Like I said I would be intrigued to see the exact figures, I imagine we have benefited from the transfers, but I can't imagine it's a significant amount.

True, not more than a few million overall, I would guess.

Btw. Not concerned about this signing. Low cost cover for full back that we’ll probably sell for a profit when we are either comfortable with Back or sign someone in January
