Guessing Wallace money gone on Surridge as need greater for striker right now.

Think this is a real shame as I think this lad is the real deal and would do really well in our side and set up...

I can't understand why we don't think 2M is worth investing here given the shit we've paid out for in the recent past-frankly I don't blame Millwall turning down 1M or so bids but 2.... And forget getting him in the summer he will be on to bigger and better things then.
Shame...

Agreed, I'm not party to our financial situation and if things are that tight we can't up the bid.

We have been in this situation in years gone by though and not made purchases at vital times to push on and it's proved costly.

Think Wallace could be the fresh impetus we need, a real shame if this isn't happening.

Seems a dumb move by Millwall as the bloke has been injured/out of favour and out of contract at the end of the season.

I'm thinking the opposite.
We've spent about £3.5m on a couple of good young players, would have gone up to about £3m for Bowler (if rumours are to be believed), and I'm sure we'd have been in the area if the offer for Wallace would have been reasonable.
Paying £3m + £15k p/w (lets say) on a player for 4 months before his contract ends works out at about £3.3m, before a 2 or 3 year deal at the same wage or an increase, which would come nearer to £5-5.5m, again, which I'm sure in the past, we wouldn't have baulked at paying, but, if the long game allows us to sign him in June, and pay the £3m we saved to him in wages and other fees, I'd rather do that.

Wallace will end up at a parachute payment club in the summer. Shame, but I'm sure the club will have other targets in mind.

I'm not convinced. He's been playing at this level for five years now, all with Millwall. Plenty of parachute payment clubs could have taken him at any point, it's not like this is his breakout season. Let's face it if he was that critical to getting promotion back to the PL then a parachute payment club would have paid whatever Millwall wanted, because whatever the asking price was the money made from promotion would pay it off ten times over probably.

Seems like Forest would be a good fit for him.

Lets hope so but I think you are underselling him. I don't pay too much attention to other clubs players but he stood out and got my attention on a number of occasions whilst at Millwall. I think we made a mistake not coughing up and signing him.

I think on a free, some parachute payment club will take a punt on him. Would be happy to be proven wrong, but I reckon someone will offer him a more lucrative contract than anything we can compete with.

Mine too, which I think reinforces the point. It's not his breakout season, he's been well known for a while. You think some club with ample money would have taken the punt already?

He was probably available for £5m-£7m or so in previous seasons gone by when under longer contract and wouldn't have demanded a wage that crazy. I just don't get why parachute clubs will circle now because he's cheaper, when they've already got tonnes of money thanks to that PL revenue (which they want more of, so willing to pay more to get back to it).
