Millwall shitting their pants at losing him for nothing in 3...2...

Edit: Wonder if this is a ploy to get Millwall to lower their demands, whilst at the same time seeing if we can squeeze Brentford for a tiny bit more.

Currently the media reports tend to suggest it's £20m on the table for Brennan and somewhere north of £2m for Wallace, which means Forest's best scenario if both deals are done is £18m net. If we can squeeze Millwall to £1m or £1.5m (if they think they'll otherwise get nowt) and we can squeeze Brentford to £25m then the net becomes £23.5m...

Millwall got nothing to play for anymore too, whereas earlier in the window they still had an outside shot of top six.

If it's a choice between Wallace plus £18m in the bank or Johnson I'd take Johnson, funny because I probably wouldn't have said that at the start of the window but in the last 2 or 3 games Johnson has looked sublime. I didn't think he'd hit 20 G/A for the season at the start of Jan but I do now.

Why pay Millwall £2m now, when we can sign him for free in summer.

For the simple reason that he probably won’t come here if he’s a free agent in the summer.

It’s a bit like Brentford coughing up big bucks for Brennan now. They know that come the summer with bigger and better clubs restocking their chances are slim.

I’d happily pay 2M for Wallace now on a 4 year deal. He’s a proven, seasoned championship performer at peak age. If he were in the market with 2.5 yrs on his Millwall deal he would be worth 8M+ IMO

Well f*** 'em, I mean this is Jed Wallace not Lewandowski... the only reason for us to pay over the odds for anyone is if we're convinced they are the player that WILL propel us into the play-offs and hopefully beyond. Short of actually buying Lewandowski no-one is guaranteed to do that and with the best will in the world Wallace is a decent player but no more, so we move on...

Well that’s not the only reason is it. We can all see there’s going to be a lot out at the end of the season-just loosing the loans will rob us of 1/2 our first team so we have to restock-getting quality players is never easy. Wallace will provide a lot of options and cover some of the gaps left by Garner and Zink. I think it’s sensible business and although 9M is stupid, 1.5-2 isn’t.

I wonder if we should hedge our bets on this one and try to land him anyway, knowing that if we don't go up Johnson will be gone anyway and we'll need Wallace in this league.

We certainly need one of if not both Wallace and Bowler. Mighten and Lolley are both out injured so if Johnson gets injured we have very little cover.

Of course we should
He’s a quality player and our squad will be significantly improved with him in it, regardless of what happens with Johnson.

There’s one other thing and that’s he’s a dead ball specialist. Currently it’s Garner taking the majority of set plays. Given that a sizeable proportion of goals come through that route we need a replacement

If we go up, I cannot see Johnson going.
I'd see him with a new contract on big money, playing for Forest until such time as we were relegated again.
There should be no rush to sign Wallace either - he is currently injured.
Is he another biscuit from the tin?

No, I agree that if we're promoted, Johnson will likely stay. I was just considering the possibility of us not going up, and us starting next season in the Championship after having sold Brennan in the summer.

Well he’s played 194 games for Millwall since 2017 which is near enough all of ‘em
I reckon. So a big harsh to label him
A biscuit.

Tbf it was a question not a statement, which you answered and it appears he is not a biscuit.

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
I’d still be going for Wallace and Bowler to give us back up and options for the left side too

We'll probably got for 1 not both now, and Maybe get the other in the summer if possible.

Wallace would be a significant upgrade on Zincs.

I agree with you Red, although hes a different type of player to Zink. For me more in the Andy Reid role-I think he would be a very, very good addition-I could see him playing out wide and in a 10 role and we need a quality dead ball exponent-which he brings. Garner will be off at the end of the season and we really need to be making the most of corners and set plays-with the likes of McKenna and Cook as targets its criminal how few we score from deadfall situations....

Personally I think its a big risk to leave it to the summer. I'd pay the 2M and sign him now.

It's not a risk at all. He either wants to join Forest or he doesn't.

If he would join other clubs over Forest in summer then he simply won't sign for us now if we're the only bidder.

6 months is plenty of time for things to change.

A team may not be expressing interest now, but then they go through a managerial change and the new manager wants Jed.

Jed might think that a team is going down this year, and so dosnt want to go But then they survive, so now Jed is interested.

A team might be in prem right now, looking good to stay up and not considering Jed good enough for that league. They come down and now he’s their top target.

A team might be interested now but can’t offer enough money, they get some cash and now can match our offer.

Plenty of ways things can change, plenty of risk.

In all those scenarios the root cause is he's not all that interested in Forest so he'll wait until summer to see what other offers he gets.

Which was my point..

Your point seems to be that you can only be interested in one club. If you're interested enough then you go, otherwise, you wait.

When my point is that players can be happy with taking a contract at multiple clubs and that Forest is just his favourite offer right now.

Right now he may have 5 offers, all of which he is happy with taking. The money, the area, the league and the set-up all fit what he wants with all 5.

But, for whatever reason, we are his favourite of the 5 right now so he would come here.

That doesn't mean that he wouldn't be interested in the other 4, and that doesn't mean that he wouldn't be interested in somewhere else if they present a better option than Forest.

By summer he may have 3 new offers, and 3 of the current ones removed, and we might no longer be the favourite.

If you believe the reports, it's us that cooled on this deal, isn't it? I didn't read anywhere that Wallace rejected us.
