Jed who? Last months chip paper.
Mine too, which I think reinforces the point. It's not his breakout season, he's been well known for a while. You think some club with ample money would have taken the punt already?
He was probably available for £5m-£7m or so in previous seasons gone by when under longer contract and wouldn't have demanded a wage that crazy. I just don't get why parachute clubs will circle now because he's cheaper, when they've already got tonnes of money thanks to that PL revenue (which they want more of, so willing to pay more to get back to it).
Sources purporting to be "in the know" tell me that SC and DM differed on this one.
Both wanted to sign him, but DM said "not in January, for a fee; we'll get him in the summer on a free".
SC reportedly wanted to pay a fee and het JW in for the last third of the season.
I don't know how true it is.

I caught up with a "Red side of the Trent" podcast from mid-Feb, which Daniel Taylor guested on. They discussed Wallace (and Bowler) at length. The sticking point was perhaps this unwritten rule, or policy, that we are trying to avoid paying significant fee for anyone over the age of 26 (Wallace is 27). Taylor's take on it was that we were perhaps more likely to go back in the Summer for Josh Bowler, who at 23, fits the recruitment profile a little better. Apologies if this has already been covered above.
In the manner of buying a player known for one position and then transitioning him to another (K Burns?), that idea isn't way off. Our recruitment is going well at the moment and seems able to pluck players who would fit our system, but who are not regarded highly at their own clubs.
But that not the case with Wallace. Millwall rate him very highly, and theres no doubt they would've jumped at him signing an extension, hes just too good for them.
I would be pleased if hes our number 1 target because I've watched him closely for several years and I think hes the real deal. His stats at a club like Millwall are outstanding. But that's the problem, anyone else with their heads half screwed on will have noticed this so it will be about whose got the biggest bags of cash in the summer and I can't see us winning that...I still think we should have paid the 2M in January...
I think the same unfortunately. Being out of contract, he'll probably get a lot of interest from clubs with deeper pockets than Forest (should we not get promoted). I think our chance to sign him has probably been and gone now.
He's been at Millwall for years. If other clubs wanted him they would have taken him by now, even if it meant paying £5m-£10m, it's pocket change for deep pocket clubs.
High chance he's ours in summer in my opinion, especially the way we're going.
I remember similar things being said about the likes of Alex Mowatt, who then went to parachute payment club West Brom on a free transfer. Usually these kind of players tend to get hoovered up by the parachute payment clubs as soon as they become available on free transfers. I highly doubt he'll sign for Forest (or any other non-parachute payment club) personally. It'll be his last chance for a big contract this summer, so he'll probably go to a to a newly relegated side on £30-40k per week.
Leeds seem committed to bringing him in, will offer higher wages than us but less game time. Depends what he's after

Norwich and Watford are unlikely to be bidders given their usual transfer policy of buying foreign cheap. They won't want to pay £40k a week for him.
West Brom might fancy another roll of the dice but look miles off the pace of Forest at the moment, and other clubs might look at West Brom and go "Well they went for Mowatt and he's not been good enough for them, so would Wallace be the same for us?"
If we don't go up this year maybe we could tempt him with a big promotion bonus in the contract if we can't pay the wages up front? Loads of people said Garner wouldn't be here this season, that he'd either be in and around Man Utd squad or on loan to a mid-table PL side. The quality required (even if it's just expectation of quality) for PL football either currently or expected is quite large. I don't think many clubs will look at Wallace as an integral part of that so whilst they might talk to him about a deal they won't make him a priority.
We'll see. I think he'll be a Red in summer.
