Andy Reid Coaching

Barry

Where's me hammer?
Reid has clearly learnt from Billy Davies.

Jamie Mackie running around like a lunatic defending from the front, pushing teams backwards higher up the pitch.

That's when we forced teams into mistakes and looked positive, with midfield players able to push on and score goals.

Id say Reid knew his shit long before he met Davies

I hope it won't happen, but if the Williams / Andy Reid combination results in no more wins, strange team choices and poor football, will we just blame the embargo and injuries?

Depends if you like them or not.

Kinda just makes me think Fawaz and his little group thought, how can we put a positive spin on sacking Freedman? Oh Andy Reid isn't doing nothing, we'll stick him as a coach even though he has no experience! That'll keep them quiet for a bit.

Or maybe someones identified that our central midfield has been shite for the last 14 months & thought Reidys input might be beneficial.

I'm pretty sure with all the bullshit and bollocks Forest fans make up about the club and players they could write an episode of Hollyoaks.

At least 3 of the team would need to be gay/bi and possibly one other trans. Two or three of the remainder would have to be murderers and there would have to be someone buried under a stand/ center spot or penalty spot. Everyone would have had everyone elses girlfriend / wife and at least one player would soon be finding out that they are not their childrens real dad....

And how is this different to the current side?

“I think there is a desire there to deliver the kind of football that the fans want," said Reid. "It would be good to have a bit of a go in the final stages of the season; to go and press teams and get the ball back higher up the pitch”.

This I have to see. Who exactly will be doing this pressing? You have to have mobile and athletic players to play that way. I don’t see that in our squad. Once you start chasing the ball you better have support behind or the opposition will pick you off.

This will also mean we will be defending higher up the pitch. If we do the defence will get exposed. Mills lacks pace, in fact all our defenders are better suited to playing deep and facing the ball. Any time the opposition have had a clear run at our defenders they have been found wanting. I’m willing to be proved wrong though. Time will tell.

Andy has a couple of badges and thinks he’s Pep. But I’m no fan of the pressing game. Someone should tell coaches on these courses that the game is about players not how to put on a training session.

This exactly. We tried pressing against Huddersfield and got wrecked. You build your style for the players you have nine out of ten times. Klopp at Liverpool is an exception but as you get better and better players, they are more versatile on how they can play. I'm sure he'll be moving players around in the summer to compliment his style.

This is why chopping and changing managers every so often doesn't work, because you end up with various different styles of player trying to play one brand of football. Maybe that works in the Premierleague but in the Championship, it's the teams that either blend really well or just have that out and out quality that do well.

Maybe Williams & Reid have a little more faith in our attacking players. Freedman never fully committed to the cause going forward, at the end he had us in limbo between attack & defense that saw us concede without scoring, that cant continue, so we either retreat & defend or have a look at us going forward. Nowt really to lose.

Everything your sceptical about is possible.

Put Wilson with Mancienne & you've enough pace going backwards & two ball carrying CBs going forwards.

Have Vaughn & Cohen holding, put Benny Osborn in the middle with Burke & Mendes out wide. Have them all move back & forth as a unit.

Youve got pace out wide, attrition with craft & leadership in the middle, a link to the strikers & everyone gets up & down

Worth a look.

Depends if you are desperately scrambling for every excuse under the sun to try and justify replacing Pearce with Freedman in order to save face.

Ward, Osborn, Cohen, Grant - 4 midfielders which could play that way to some degree.

Not sure it's that far fetched.

I generally agree with the post, but just playing devils advocate: Whatever pace Mills lacks, it more than made up for by Mancienne who is easily one of the quickest defenders around.

For some reason, I imagine him with a Pirlo-esque beard...

I imagine him like that famous photo of Pirlo, sat in his vineyard swigging a large glass of Merlot.

Are our players really that shit that we can't play higher up the pitch? The fact that we haven't tried it under Dougie suggests that they are either that shit or Dougie just didn't do it..
