The Mood

The fans at the Ground went into a bit of a slump as our depressing run of form prior to Steve's sacking, uninspiring tactics and a "don't lose" rather than a "let's win" attitude pervaded. The mood at the Ground yesterday was one of excited expectancy, and there was a great feedback loop gain, with the players feeding off the crowd, and the crowd feeding off the players.
It could simply be the new manager bounce, and we may slump back, but I doubt that.
I think the mood is on the up!

It came up on my timeline that about 4 years ago, we played Wigan at home in an incredibly boring and dull 1-0 win.

If you’d told that 4 seasons later, we’d be 15th in the Premier League, had reached a Quarter Final and Semi-Final of a cup, beaten Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United along the way and tickets to the City Ground were like gold dust, I’d have called you a deluded fool.

How did we get here? A lot of that is down to a certain Mr Cooper and although the mood was quite flat after he left, it looks like we have another equally astute and classy manager in Nuno.

The mood for 2024 should be a positive one. My only concern is the erratic transfer policy, which I still believe has to change and that some fans are using victories under Nuno as a dig at Cooper. Cooper got us here and Nuno is taking us on to the next level.

Happy New Year 🥳

I think our transfer policy will change right away. We've got too many players, for certain. NES has stated he likes a 20 man or so squad. I think what he will want is bringing in the right players at the right time. One or two max this transfer window, which should be partially funded by a few outgoing.

We actually need 3 players minimum though and that’s without a GK and a ST. We have no subs for the wing positions and no sub for Gibbs White. The absolute ideal window would be 7 out and 5 in. So still -2 players anyway.

My mood for once in the premier league is optimism. First time I have felt this. We have a way of playing now that actually makes us look like a PL team. It just needs adding to now.

Which 5 players do we need? Upgrade GK and Origi I guess. Probably another wide player. Where else?

True, but the last thing we need is a major disruption right now. Two in, maybe three at the very most. Nottingham wasn't built in a day.
No that’s fair and if we don’t get rid of players maybe we can cope for 5 months. In my scenario in an absolute ideal world we will end up with -2 players.

Get rid of

Turner/Vlach
Aurier
Tavares
Felipe
Santos
Origi
McKenna

Get in
Gk
Left wing
Right wing
Amc
Striker

We desperately need sub wingers especially if Elanga gets crocked.

I’d agree with that. Early signs are that Nuno doesn’t see Origi as a complete bust, and that Dominguez can play a more advanced role in a pinch. So we currently have six or seven options for four attacking positions. We only need one or two more at the most.

(I’m open to upgrading Origi if we must)

Jan window isn't conducive for big transfers, if you are looking for statement signings, it might have to wait till the summer.

As long as we can get the glaring holes patched up even if it's for 6 months, that should be OK. An up and coming frontman who's back up to Awoniyi for now who can develop into the role might be the way to go.

As it now looks like the current squad as it stands should avoid relegation comfortably puts us in good stead, no need for any panic buys or paying over the odds.

The mood is good. Pretty damn good !!

We need a keeper, but nothing daft in the Jan window of the deal is not there on our terms. We are good enough to survive with Turner and Greek the Flapper, but a good load would be ideal until summer.

I'm not seeing many fans taking digs at Cooper.

But I do think the stark change in play since Nuno arrived shows that the correct decision was made and clearly identifies some of the issues Cooper was unable/unwilling to resolve.

But nothing takes away from the fact Cooper got us here and deserves immense credit for that. He will always be a Forest hero. But I'm now 100% sure that we needed to move on from Cooper to carry on that journey.

Do you live in Chester? I’m currently living in Vicars Cross I’m just being nosey 😂 There is a derby fan in my estate. Makes me laugh everytime I see him.

The digs at Cooper are mainly on social media, so I probably should just ignore them! Absolutely, the squad needed looking at with fresh eyes. Nuno takes us on to the next level after a fantastic 2 years 👍

Digs at Coops are ridiculous and are mainly chucked around by thickos. He’s taken us on a fabulous journey and now the reigns have been handed to the next man who will hopefully take us forward. He was given a fair crack of the whip by EM, who I think chose the right time to make the change, we should be grateful to him, for that. Here’s to another memorable year in our famous team’s history🍻 HNY ladies and gents.

Also what people perceive as digs as well. It’s quite clear cooper wasn’t getting the best out the players. You can’t hide that fact and the players clearly didn’t down tools either. They all speak so highly of him. So cooper just didn’t get it out of them. I love cooper and always will but that’s an observation I have! A dig to me would be calling him shit or going into abuse. We are going to need to talk about the improvements from one manager to the other and want things aren’t improved.

Also saying I told you so won’t be helpful now even if you were correct in your assumptions. As we need to get together going forward.

People need to give the benefit of the doubt if they can going forward cause it’s a confusing and emotional time.

Generally not, but you’ll never convince me that the 11 that started the Fulham game didn’t.

It also says a lot that Cooper ended up reverting to last year's squad with the likes of Dominguez, Aina etc suddenly out the side and out of the picture, none of whom were on the roll call of players who thanked him on social media after he was sacked.

We'll probably never know the real ins and outs but there was clearly an unhappy element to the squad and perhaps the situation was becoming untenable. The return of the aforementioned players into the starting eleven and playing well since change of manager is a good thing, even if there's question marks hanging over what happened.

I don't really know what to think, I just want Forest and Cooper to do well from the decision.
