Cheer up, everyone. It's lining up perfectly for us to relegate Sheffield United and secure our survival on the same day.

I'm in a strange mood today. I seem to be alone in not joining in with the Mass Hysteria.

It's amazing what a 2 month break can do to your mood as I'm feeling optimistic about the forthcoming season. I won't pretend I know how good Milenkovia is, but if the SMEs are to be believed, he is a real statement signing of intent that sounds like he should have gone to a West Ham or Villa. Coupled with a 2nd year more mature Murillo and hopefully we won't be a clown show at set pieces.

Our most expensive CM has a pre season and a clean bill of health to ensure he's as good as we expected last season and against Chesterfield the green shoots were there. Yes most don't care about pre season, but I do as I want to see a chemistry so we can hit the PL running. Last season we looked clueless in pre season and took that into the start of PL. Sunderland tonight will be interesting.

Miguel is a giant to compound our 90s Arsenal look with Milen, Sangare, Wood, Awoniyi, Yates and Boly. Our spine has strength and power whilst our flanks with Aina, Neco, CHO, Elanga has pace to complement. Hopefully we can out physical our opponents all over the pitch with MGW being our tricky jewel in the crown. The question remains over who partners Sangare with Danilo, Yates, Anderson and Dom all offering something different.

Nuno wasn't great last season, but he had an impossible task of replacing a legend, the AFCON debacle and the FFP stench. He now has a good period to stamp his authority and make a connection with the fans in a new season which is a fresh start.

It looks like we're staying at the CG and the conglomerate of councils and councillors appear to be making the right noises to appease the club and the club sound like they want to increase capacity beyond the too small 35-38k initial idea.

We're starting to look like a mid table Prem club off the pitch, let's hope we can attain it on also.

Also optimistic for an upturn in performances, results and fortunes. The sheer number of negative variables last year was almost overwhelming - most of them appear to be being addressed.

Also hopeful about Sangare but would preach caution. He had all the time in the world vs a league 2 side; probably more than he had in Holland. He needs to show us he can operate with a fraction of that time in the premier league. I’m hopeful for him but I’ve seen no evidence of it yet because it hasn’t been tested this season yet. Premature to think about who partners him in my book. We could be screaming for a midfield general again by Xmas.

I think it's as much physical and psychological with Sangare as it is general ability. He had some good games against good opposition last season (West Ham and Newcastle away spring to mind), he just didn't produce that consistently. Get his body and his head (confidence etc) in the right place and I think we'll see a lot more of that sort of performance.

My Mood: you are going to assume aliens have abducted me and messed with my body and mind, but I am feeling a great woosh of optimism.
New season always starts with a feeling of "this year will be better", but I look at the recruits, retentions, and releases, plus having Nuno still with us, and I think this season will be the season we establish ourselves as a Premier League team that is worthy of the name.

If I've made you sad, I can change my mind!
It’s like this: we know where you live (roughly, anyway!) so if you don’t change your mind, I can foresee hordes of angry attack-squirrels being let loose to bury their nuts in your hot tub.

Like your positivity re Sangare - but not sure it’s about who partners him.
More about who Nuno selects in midfield - with Sangare most certainly not a shoe in ( more like just one of a number of options )

It feels like there’s some calmness and competence that we haven’t seen of recent times.

Transfers look like they are being led by a coherent strategy and the club have clearly decided they don’t want to be messing around with PSR again.

I’m hoping that calmness and competence continues and we don’t fall into the traps of before. We have a solid base of players, a capable manager and a good future. We don’t need to panic, a season of development and never really looking like relegation would be a fantastic year.

I'll give you till 20 mins into the Bournmouth match, Solanke having scored the inevitable goal to put us behind.

Mood, optimistic that we are equally as strong as last season, which granted was a 17th place team, but squad is still in tact really, no apparent PSR issues looming. Another season of experience banked, make 3 or 4 really good signings and we should be set fair.
