The Demise of Birmingham City

There was a Dorset team that built a new stadium on Gypsy Land, and that was cursed by a wizard.
They didn't win a game until an exorcist went in and exorcised the curse.
Load of billy bollox, but they started winning after the exorcism.
From memory it was Dorchester Town F.C.

Daniel Storey points out that while Wayne Rooney was sacked after 82 days, he was the 15th longest-serving manager in the Championship

Even the bookies have Coops as fave. Surely not.
Punters have Cooper as favourite because he's widely rated, especially as a Champ manager.

Every second of every day, more punters are losing money than making it betting.

They deserve everything they get if this is the level of their fans.
From BBC sport.

"Such a disappointing end to Rooney's reign at the Blues. All he needed was time and money. He got neither and now one of the finest young coaches in the country is jobless."
J Staggs, High Wycombe
To be fair, I'm pretty sure the person who wrote that was pissing themselves laughing as they pressed send.

Bizarrely I'd find it much harder to wish him well if he went to Birmingham than if he went to Palace, despite the latter being closer rivals at this moment in time

I dunno I've just never really liked Birmingham City

"However, time is the most precious commodity a manager requires and I do not believe 13 weeks was sufficient to oversee the changes that were needed"

If Steve Cooper goes to Brum, he is probably admitting that his strength as a head coach is to do well in the championship (like he did at Swansea, and again at Forest). He is unlikely to improve his coaching abilities to warrant another Premier League club taking him on.
I think he is at a crossroads in his managerial career, and rather than take either the Palace job (for which there is currently no vacancy), or the Brum job, or even going abroad for a while, he would be well advised to continue picking up his severance pay cheques from EM, work out in his own mind which path he should be taking, then take it.
To leap into the hot seat at Brum would probably be career limiting.

Totally agree. At the moment Cooper still has credit in Prem8er League minds and could get another chance. If he drops back to the Championship, particularly somewhere like Birmingham, then he is quite possibly waving goodbye to the Premier League forever unless he pulls another miracle out the bag and gets promoted again.

As a Wolves fan, I'm disappointed that they've sacked Rooney. I thought he was doing a fantastic job at Birmingham.

Cooper, in my opinion, will go to Palace in the summer. He's too good for Birmingham.

I would piss myself laughing if Lampard becomes Birmingham manager - but my gut instinct says they'll go for Gary Rowett again or go creeping back to Eustace, with their tail between their legs, pleading for him to go back.

As an outside bet, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see Warnock go there on a firefighting mission until the end of the season.

I think Cooper gave a hell of a lot, both emotionally and physically to the job, so, it wouldn't surprise me to see him wait at least 6 months to get back into the game.

Yes, i think you are spot on with that observation.
Comparing how he looked at the end to how he was at the start showed just how terrible the pressure was on him.
