When Parker joined the club, he chose Cook as the player to take the 'new broom' treatment. As Club Captain who was there for more than a decade and gaining promotion through the leagues, to be the player a new manager chooses to show there's a new boss in town is a bit disrespectful.
I get that but theres not much room for sentimentality if you want to be successful in football-not that Parker is, but dealing with ageing, expensive players is part of the managers job. Look at our record-time and again we've been stuck with a squad rammed with pension age lads looking for their last hand out and it never works, ever.

You're thinking is extremely one dimensional.

Don't underestimate the positive influence of having someone in the dressing room that can knit team harmony together. I've been around dressing rooms with and without them of similar ability and the one that has a character that can pull everyone together positively is not a waste.

They can be extremely fragile places and there is a very good reason why Cooper has kept Cafu around and Bong previously.

He kept Bong around as nobody else would take him surely, he still doesn't have a club by the way...

I get that the dressing room needs characters and it needs someone to keep spirits up but it would be much better if it was someone who could contribute as an actual footballer too.

We've signed some pretty seasoned players, in some cases internationals and players that have played in the Champions League. I doubt they'd even notice if Cafu suddenly wasn't there to be honest.

They could have just released Bong but he was 100% kept around because of the way he helped youngsters and that camaraderie he brought.

I guarantee that there is a group of players within that dressing room who would absolutely miss Cafus influence and another new one in Lodi who will be finding his feet in a new country thanks to Cafus help.

It's role that will probably fade as more seasoned pros eventually come through the door but as Coops himself has made a point about several times, they want to replicate as much of that team spirit and harmony which took us here in the first place.

How do you know this was the case and not that he was offered a mutual termination of his deal and refused?

Genuinely interested

Is now a good time to point out that Cafú is currently the leading 'Goal assist' provider in the squad?

Admittedly they were both against Grimsby though... 🤣

I can't comment on any mutual termination discussions as I have no idea one way or the other mate. I do know that Bong was seen as a positive influence around the place, never disruptive and in fact went the other route and went out of his way to help youngsters and the team in general.

It was reported somewhere he thought a great deal of bongs input and ideas , can’t remember where I read it.
Bob Marley‘s biography, would be my guess?

Unfortunately I think he’s done at this level. So far off the pace it’s untrue. He did what he was brought in to do last season but biancone/bade need to be given a run of games.

Biancone must be wondering what the f*** is going on. Barely had a look in at all whilst Cook, Worrall and McKenna get the runaround each week and then we go out and sign 2 more defenders. It's a bit of a mess isn't it really?

I find it odd we haven't seen Biancone given he's one of the signings we supposedly spent a year identifying.

I must wait until we have had a reasonable run of games before criticising selections, particularly as I don't see most of the games, relying on highlights and reports.

But so far this season I have been mystified by some of the selections, particularly defensive. We were crying out for some pace in the defence at the start of the signings and what have at our disposal at the moment is not being used at all. Strange.

I commented before the game about how weak our team is but I feel it needs repeating

Cook was deemed not good enough to get championship Bournmouth promoted and was their 4th or 5th choice centre back I believe in the championship when they let him go FOR FREE to us last January

We're now starting him in the Premier league

Bournmouth are considered one of the weaker sides in the division and we're starting a guy they bomb squaded and basically released

That's a bit worrying

To be fair I think he's only in there because he has PL experience and for his clear abilities as an organiser tactically.

Not convinced these skills are enough to keep him in the team at this level.

It's clear we are transitioning new signings in but due to Niakhate being injured need last season's B3 more than thought.

That yellow he took at the end was embarrassing. He looked like he was running through treacle with his laces tied together.

Whatever our next move, Worrall back in should be high on the list. Very uneasy with Cooper believing Cook & McKenna are better options.

If we're going to be shit, then lets at least be shit with some heart.
Worrall is just better than cook there is not a lot else to it. Although what is Bade doing? We need pace back there.

Oh yeah I wasn't criticising cook, if anything the fact he's the guy we're relying on for that experience and organisation proves the point I'm making, in that others clubs have much better players who can do that and have played at this level than we do

I know Worrall has been shite but he’s far better than cook. It’s not even a contest
I don't think he's been that bad (given the rest of the team has) he was MOTM against Spurs. Worral seems to have done something wrong behind the scenes, so i'd imagine thats not helping the dressing room either alongside 22 new players with many on outrageous wages..

I love Cook for what he did last season but he should not be starting games for us regularly at this level, it’s unacceptable and if Cooper believes he’s better than the other option it says a lot.
