I like Turners positioning and the way the ball rolls close by him for their goal line chance. I think the Jesus goal the other day has got him over covering now 😂

I've been as critical as anyone about Turner, probably more than most but what I am is fair. He was outstanding tonight, I said to my mate and son just before the shootout that he deserved to be a hero and have his moment, he got it and I'm chuffed.

A lot gets written about his individual mistakes and when they are mistakes that are self-inflicted, I don't have any sympathy for him. In fact, I would go so far as to suggest that I get nervous every time he has to kick the ball with them Size 15 flippers of his.

However, there are occasions like tonight where our defence at times was just all over the place. Go watch the Cup Highlights for their goal. Niakhite doesn't get out to stop the initial shot. If Turner doesn't get a hand to it, it's in anyway but then Montiel watches the same ball as Bell and delays going for it. Knight starts that passage of play behind Elanga and Kouyate. Knight sprints into the box and after a while Kouyate arrives after.

It's somewhat fortunate but we put the odds in their favour.

He wears the shirt, he had a good game and he got us through to the next round of the FA cup.

Really happy for him and hell be playing the next FA cup game as well.

That's an interesting thought. I think if Sels does well in the next couple of games Nuno will stick with him against United, as he seems to really value the FA cup. But I guess I wouldn't be against giving Turner the chance to make amends for the last time we played them.

Erm... Watching the highlights, I think the in-game narrative (at least on here) might have been incredibly unfair on Turner. It was a good save for their goal, the errors were in the defending. He pulled off two or three really good saves in the game, and made an excellent penalty save (and almost two). Unfortunately for him we've all already pre-decided that he's terrible.

I AM NOT PROPOSING WE START HIM IN THE LEAGUE, before I get permabanned. But fair play to him for last night. He's my number two :ROFLMAO:

Agree with all of that, though I wouldn't even play him in the next cup round: he's my number 2 as well, and as such I'm happiest when he's benched!

My only worry is that within a relatively short timeframe, we'll find that Sels isn't actually any better.
Always the worry given our recent record. I'm just pleased, on a human level, that Turner finally has a real positive to take from the game last night - it feels like a long time since we've been able to say that. Will do him the world of good.

(On a practical level I'm still where I was post spurs, in that don't want him between the sticks.)

I'd be really interested to see the Bristol goal from another angle. I've only seen it from the bog standard match camera angle and I'm not sure it does him any favours - looks a bit awkward but it's hard to gauge how much ground he had to make up or what sort of hand he got to it. Maybe he could have done better - I'm really not sure. Hard to say from the angle I've seen. Was a good strike for sure.

In any case, sounds like he had an excellent game otherwise and nice for him to be the hero in the shootout. Hopefully will help go some way to restore his confidence for the next time he's called upon.

In the matchday thread someone said the Trent End were clapping the save - they would have had a pretty good view.
We had a great view from our LBC seats.
It was a terrific effort to divert the ball onto the post.
I'm not saying he should be restored to No.1 position, but he showed last night that he can produce a good performance.
Sels will probably get the shirt on saturday...

Always harder to judge when you haven't seen it live.

Going on the clips from the highlights vid, I wouldn't put our goal down last night as an error, but it certainly wasn't great keeping either (nor was it good defending).

Honestly, I'm happy to forget last night in it's entirety, and our conceded goal as part of that. (Yes, I know that means forgetting about Origi's worldie too lol)

Hard to make any call on it from the camera angle as you say. My view from U1 in the Bridgford didn't give me any more information and nobody around me seemed to question him either.
