I think some of you are overestimating Taylor's reputation.

He's scored 11 goals at Championship level his entire career, and spent most of it flitting between leagues 1 & 2.

He's a really handy free transfer which I'd like to see us sign, but I think sides relegated from the Prem will be looking at bigger fish tbh. Their objective is to get straight back up, I don't think they're gonna entrust that to a chap who's 30 and would have nosebleeds at being in the top 6.

We on the other hand sorely lack depth, and have a system & squad he'll fit into perfectly. We're in a position where we have to take gambles on players like Taylor coz of the lack of parachute money, but those coming down won't be.

15k seems about right to me given his league history. I don't think one 11 goal season in the Champ earns you a 25k wage.

I don't think a side relegated from the Premier League (or other parachute payment clubs) would want him as their first choice striker, but as an option from the bench I could definitely see someone offering him a chunky wage and 3 year contract. Whilst £25k+ seems a lot to us, it's absolute chicken feed to parachute payment clubs and would prevent a non-parachute payment club that could threaten like us snapping up a potentially useful player, its a no brainer for them on a free.

I can see the POV, I just think those club's don't need to do that.

Norwich for example have Pukki who pissed this league & scored 11 in the Prem. If they're to sign any more forwards I'm sure they'll be looking for someone far more proven than Taylor. They've also got some of their young talent being sniffed up by Prem clubs, with their recruitment team staying "bidding starts at 20m", so they don't really need to consider free or cheap backup, between sales & parachute payments they can target 1 or 2 quality forwards & wingers to compete for a place.

Signing a lower league player who can do a job is a strategy long term nowhere club's like ours have to adopt, not relegated Prem ones. I think our competition would be the likes of Wendies.

In Norwich's case I don't think someone more proven would want to play second fiddle to Pukki, whereas Taylor would be happy to sit on the bench there if the money is there. Then you have clubs like Villa, who last time in this league hoovered up any semi-competent player with a pulse. We also have the other parachute payment clubs that are still in this league, such as Cardiff and Fulham (if they don't go up), who might be in for him. There's also the benefit of denying a club like ourselves a good player by pricing us out of the market, which is another benefit to those clubs signing him. Rumoured interest from Rangers and abroad pushes his asking price up even further.

Wherever he ends up, he'll be earning a lot more than £15k per week next season without a shadow of a doubt.

Nobody should sign this guy. Just for a laugh.

You make a point, but just out of interest, how much would your man, Marriott, cost as an alternative option in terms of fee and wages?

We are also in a league where there are clubs willing to spend £7m and £10m on the likes of Ben Brereton and Krystian Bielik. In that context, I don't think someone offering a striker who has just had a good season and is available on a free transfer £25k+ a week is particularly unlikely at all.

My man?

Marriot was just an example of how to better spend 3m than Soudani. 10 goal return that season instead of the 2 Soudani gave us, and someone to step into Grabban's shoes when injured instead of Murphy & Ansarifard.

He was a mirror to show how bad a signing Soudani was.

Regards wages Marriot is rumoured to be on 18k/wk, so in comparison to Taylor I think that's about right as I'd say Derby are top heavy with wages.

I agree with the notion that Taylor is most likely to go to the highest bidder, which would probably be a relegated side.

On Marriott, I can't believe Derby paid a fee that could cost them up to £8m in total. Craziness.

I think he'd fit in their current system tbh, but off the field issues are obviously holding him back. Been several times now it's been suggested he enjoys a pint too much. Probably be a wasted career of some unfulfilled potential.

why are people assuming he wants £25k+ a week. he's been in lower leagues all his life , he choose charlton even though sunderland offered more.i think he just wants to play at a higher level.

He's an in demand striker who is available on a free transfer off the back of a good season, and this is realistically his last chance to get a big money contract. He'll hold out for as much money as he can get, as would most players in such a situation.

I read Celtic were also interested. He might fancy playing in the first round of the Champions League.

Soudani got a long term career threatening injury, you can’t legislate for that.

Prior to his injury he looked decent, I’d have backed him over your boy Jack Marriott
