Is he playing left mid in a 433?

Just thread SSM excellent post and realised why I’d got it round my head - inverted wingbacks, no less!

Chris Wilder is not the only English maverick in English football, it seems.

Brilliant to hear that he did well and got on the score sheet. Hopefully Exeter win the final with him playing a starting role too; the experience of getting a promotion under his belt at his age could do him the world of good, it would be great if he impressed enough over the summer to enable us to push Darikwa and Jenkinson out of the door.

Good luck to Jayden Richardson today. 19 years-old and off to Wembley for the League 2 Play-Off Final.

Not really. Certainly quick but he had a couple of chances to put crosses in and failed miserably. Looks very uncomfortable on the left.

If I was them I would swap Randall and Richardson around.

Richardson is still having his moments though bombing on. Just the execution of cross which has been blocked a couple of times and one ricocheted back off him unluckily.

When he bombs down the right his body protects the ball along the touchline on his strong side. Uses that so well.

Really don't get the logic of playing wing backs on their weak side.

Inverted fullbacks and half spaces.

In short, it's all Guardiola's fault.

It's certainly hasn't helped Randall Williams. He would have to play as a winger if he was bought by a club higher up the leagues but not sure he has enough about him to succeed quite yet.

Although from the brief bits I saw, they didn't really play on the inside. They were more like orthodox wing backs, who were just forced on their weak side when they got into an attacking position.

Exeter manager's thoughts

“Jayden’s (Richardson) personality and character has been superb and alongside Dara O’Shea, he is the best loan character we have had at this football club,” the manager told exetercityfc.co.uk.

“That speaks volumes for Nottingham Forest, it speaks volumes for Jayden and his family, and he has improved throughout the season.

“He has probably been a little bit unlucky that right wing-back is his natural position and Randell Williams has been our best player this season, but the fact that I trusted him to play on the opposite side of the pitch in the semi-final and the final speaks volumes for how far he has come.”

“He has pace and power and is a dynamic player,” he said.

“He still needs to learn a lot about the fundamentals of football and the defensive side of it if he is going to be a top class full-back, but he is an exciting player moving forward and he has always got a smile on his face and the way he interacted, for a lad that had come down from Nottingham to live in the area in temporary accommodation, was great.

“He seemed to enjoy his time, which we are delighted with because we want it to reflect well on the environment we have got here, but hopefully he is one we could work with again in the future if he were to go out on loan again.

“We would love to have him back.”
