He looks like he can move. That’s a good start for a fullback nowadays. Hopefully he can kick on over pre-season and we can shift Darikwa and Jenkinson out in the summer and spend that money elsewhere, like on the wing

Hard to tell from highlights but definitely looks like he's got something. Not just his pace but the way he just bounces off people without going over, and still so young. Very promising.

I can't see anyone taking Jenkinson off our hands. Terrible signing along with Bong.
But I reckon Sabri could get a tune out of Darikwa, so long as he retains his pace.

It's been very quiet regarding Darikwa. Shouldn't he be fit by now if his recovery had gone according to plan ?

I can't genuinely comment on Bong's ability as I've not seen enough of the bloke to make a fair judgement, however, I know from experience of playing football at a decent local amateur-level for many years that training and actually playing games is significantly different.

As for Jayden, I have seen quite a bit of him in various academy sides and have generally never been less than impressed. I am slightly concerned however at how little football he's actually played at Exeter this season before anyone recommends that he should become the automatic back-up to Matty Cash.

It hasn't stopped anyone else

Several months ago Bong was an unfit 31 year old, training most days with the squad, but who still looked like he needed a full pre-season & at least 5-10 games to get to a half decent level of Chanpionship pro fitness.

Now he's a 32 year old who's not training with the squad.

I very much think he'll be moved on for someone else before he's even had time to try & contribute.

Either that or sit chilling for 2.5 years whilst picking up a full wage.

That's a damning, though no-less valid opinion Alf, which I'm happy to accept is based on more knowledge of Bong's footballing abilities than my own - I think it's human nature to be more accommodating in terms of fitness, or lack of, towards players we otherwise rate.

As I implied earlier though, I prefer to see more evidence of him in action before I jump to any definitive conclusion, notwithstanding the admittedly less-than-impressive hour-or-so I've seen of him so far in a Forest shirt.

It's not really a criticism of his abilities mate, he just outright didn't look anywhere near fit enough when he played.

With our player turnaround and at 32 I'm not sure he'll get time to shape up before he's shipped out.

Time will tell

Starting the 2nd leg for Exeter v Colchester in under an hour.

Could be on the left again frustratingly. Hopefully not.

I watched the 1st leg and thought Exeter's full backs were poor, so was a bit worried Jayden wasn't playing. Guess Taylor wanted to keep it tight and JR might be a bit loose. Got to attack now which should hopefully help him. The Colchester left back looked decent, best player on the pitch by a country mile. Pacey and athletic. The winger we were supposed to be looking at never got a thing out of him. And as an added bonus he scored a good free kick too. I'd rather him than Bong. Can't remember his name though.

Cohen Bramall. Was at Arsenal before this. Definitely looked like a player worth watching whilst he had Randall Williams in his pocket who has been much talked about. Totally ineffectual. But Randall is having a better time this evening.

Must admit, I have never ever seen inverted wing-backs before. Exter play Richardson at LWB (right-footed) & Randall Williams RWB (left-footed).

It isn't ideal for Jayden because he is so much better marauding on his strong side but capable of coming in on his left.

I guess it is an experience all the same and he could be 45 minutes away from going to Wembley. Last Forest player at Wembley ?

They really like Williams, he's been their most attacking threat all season, and he plays RWB for them, so annoyingly it's mean Jayden has often had to play out of position on the left.

From what i've seen I don't think Williams has enough to be a winger in the Champ. He's sharp, got a good left foot and comes inside well, but doesn't have the lightening pace to burn past people, nor the strength or great skill to either beat people imo. Bramhall has shown if you have a little bit of pace, standing him up stops him at source.

Tough for Jayden on the left, as although it's obviously the same position, it makes jockeying and shaping your body different from what is natural to him. He often seems to be left 2-1 in today's game, but driving forward well.

Going forward he is very good, and his pace helps him out a lot defensively. He probably does back himself a bit too much in a footrace, when he could be a bit more proactive dropping 10 to cover space, but that comes with experience.

It's interesting that they like their wing-backs inverted. I get it, cos you can cut inside to cross, and it forces the opposition central a lot, to where the congestion is, but it also stifles attacks as players often turn into trouble rather than away into space. It definitely takes away some of Jayden's edge as someone who can fly down a wing to overlap.

Here's hoping they get in the final and he gets a game at Wembley.

Could be about to become the first Forest player to score a winner in a play-off game.
