James David Garner

Re: James Garner

If they don't sign midfielders then Garner will be involved for them, but there is no way they don't go into next season not spending a fortune on midfielders. The current crop Man U have are pathetic. They will sign Rice or somebody.

Isn’t there rumours he wants Frenkie de Jong?

Re: James Garner

If they sign De Jong as expected, I can't see how you can have him and Garner in midfield.

But anyway, the talking tactics twitter account made some interesting observations about what a difficult task Forest ask of Garner and Yates. They have to effectively cover sideline to sideline between the defence and the front 3. If our front three are playing high, that is a massive space to cover. It makes you appreciate Garner and Yates even more when you put it in to context.

Said that a few games ago. I was kind of hoping we would drop Zinkernagel a bit deeper to help them out to be honest. That or bring Layrea on and put Colback in the middle.

The ball was just going backwards and forwards over Garner and Yates' heads for the majority of the game.

Re: James Garner

There's no way Manure go into next season with Jimmy as a first rotation option. Maybe second or third.

Sure, Ten Hag might want to have a look at some point and see how he responds in training etc but his first concern will be how to integrate the signings they will undoubtedly make in this area. At least one will be WC level.

Re: James Garner

Why was this not Jimmy's goal? Surely the ball in was "on target" and was deflected in by the defender?

Over all our loans, hope we get another year out of Jim the most. Regardless, he's a tree now.

I hope we can now convince Man Utd to sell him personally.

I have said all season he has the most potential in our squad, he will play for England one day.

Don't think we'd get a sale, he's really highly thought of there, unless it was essentially to buy back for what we pay for him.

I think a third loan spell might be best for all parties though. He'll probably not get a kick at United right now and we're not a threat to United.

For them it's a win/win situation, gets blood in at prem level with a team, coach and squad that his familiar with

Don't forget the loan rules are changing so teams like Man U and Chelsea etc can't basically have whole reserve squads on loan.

The sell/buy back clause idea will probably become more common when they can't do that with as many players.

I don't think Garner is really that close to their first team, good as he has been for us, it's a completely different level where they want to be.

Though their new manager probably would like to focus on younger players the slower build that will have is probably not going to be quick enough for their fans - they haven't really won a lot since Fergie retired and that was a long while ago now. Assuming they do offload some 1st team MFs this summer they will probably replace them rather than promoting the likes of Garner.

He'd be good enough I'm sure for a bottom-half PL side which is almost certainly what we will be.

Re: James Garner

Sounds like the most likely outcome is another loan?

Issue becomes how late into the transfer window we're willing to wait.
You won't. I don't think that united's new manager will give garner a chance at all. He needs ready and top class players and he is going to sign some.

That's what I think as well. Ten Hag will be under immediate pressure to deliver so he isn't going to take a chance on unproven players like Garner.

I'm on the fence with this - on the one hand, he's very much followed the Ajax blueprint of bringing through young players from their academy (23 in 4 and a half years) and helping them improve - so that is part of his DNA.

On the other hand, this is Manchester United, who very much demand success, now, in a league that is far more competitive than the Eredivisie and any such systematic promotion of youngsters in the medium term, will require him to have the players in place now to buy him that time.

The problem for them is CM is a real problem position and most of the money they spend will be on that position.

Has this Twitter journalist got any actual idea about anything though? He’s a trainee along with about five others who all say the same thing.

Trent Hutson, to be fair, is right about as many times a day as a broken clock and that's when he's doing well. He's just a kid who doesn't really know anything.

To be fair I am pretty sure he broke Garner's signing last time before anyone else.
