Doing a favour for his agent.

The lad needed a loan.

The average man in the street does his budgeting by counting the money he has for the month and sorting out the essentials. Then very carefully spending what he can afford on the essentials. When the money is gone, stop spending.

For that reason few of us buy luxuries we can't afford and don't need.

I wish our football club operated in the same way.

Is it possible we signed him as a favour to Mendes which will be returned 10 fold.

Of course not, so what was the bloody point.

It's vanity signings like this which make us a mockery to the other 19 clubs in the league.

Reyna is clearly a talented player considering his 90 appearances for Dortmund, so why does the manager feel like he can't be utilised in some way?

Because he's been injured?

He's missed 2 games due to a knock.

Prior to that he's been used in 1-18 minute cameos on 4 occasions and was an unused sub against Luton.

I'm just confused as to why we brought him in considering he doesn't have an option to buy if we're not really going to use him.
Agree about the option. Looked good against Newcastle before the injury - hope he comes good. We need them all...

It's clearly not just injury, but a relegation battle is probably not the best scenario to blood him in. He will be needed if elanga, CHO or MGW get injured

According to transfermarket he has been on the bench for 5 out of the 7 PL games, so presumably injured for the other 2. And has come on 3 times totaling about 40 mins. I dont think this is just injury.
We were told he wasn't fit when we signed him and then he got injured, and he sees his best position as the same one as one of our best players... there may well be something else going on but there's also that.

I was surprised he didn't get a bit more time to build on his Newcastle showing, where I thought he looked decent, but we were winning in the next one and he got a brief spell in the one after. Then he got the knock.

Hopefully he contributes in the run in...

I know next to nothing about him but reading the comments under the Athletic article most the americans (who are quite bitter about this it seems) were saying that he mostly plays as a wide forward and only recently moved to a 10 (although no disputing if he sees himself as a 10, I'm sure he would be happy to play anywhere). So If this guy is no better than Origi for example I'd be amazed!

His returns from the left are decent, but he certainly thinks he's a CAM.

Yeah I'm sure he does but I doubt he would be turning his nose up at playing anywhere just to get into the team.

He clearly isnt injured now so will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Then....why bring him in?

He's on loan until the end of the season, we were 17th when we signed him, if you're loaning players for the rest of the season you're literally loaning them for a relegation battle.

Yup, though I'm torn with him getting lots of time from the bench, since it would likely mean we are chasing the game.

I've seen enough to know there's a player in there though in that brief cameo v Newcastle, so one way or another let's hope he gets to show off what he can do.

I do wonder how much the lack of purchase option influences our choices with Reyna - if we have a long term ambition of retaining him, which wouldn't surprise me at all should we stay in the division with the MGW move talk, it wouldn't be in our interests to drive his price up.

Regardless of that we need to win games of course, though it would make sense in terms of not giving him time when winning v West Ham.
