Probably because the women's team was very well respected and famous back in the 90's (the days of Mia Hamm) and the men's team was an afterthought. The yanks among us will no doubt comment (when have they ever not commented on something?) but the impression has been that USA soccerball was more popular with women than men in the early days.

This is also evident in many of the current men's team, who were clearly inspired by the women of the 90s... Turner for one plays like a big girl.
You were doing really well until that last comment!

Unless there are key injuries/suspensions I don't see how a 21-year old American lad with a troublesome reputation, untried in the Premier League, actually gets a start.

I still don't get the 'roster' thing. You are part of a squad or team.

When I worked a roster was the detail you were supposed to be working. A list or plan showing what you were supposed to be doing.
Roster is a word that the English language stole from the traditional Dutch word 'rooster', which simply means a table or list.

Me because they’re being absolute ***** on Twitter about OUR club. I’m all about growing our talent across the seas, especially in Europe. But my issue comes along when these dickheads want to make sweeping statements about our squad and club that they never watched ever.

I see people on Twitter saying that Gio Reyna is our best player in the squad when realistically he’s not better than Morgan Gibbs white. I could say he’s not better than Elanga and I could say he’s not better than Callum Hudson Odoi currently.

They want to put blame on our defense for the issues that stem from Matt Turner‘s inability to be a soccer player when needed like passing the ball to him. They look at stats and automatically assume things from it and this is a plague from sports Twitter in general. I see it in NFL Twitter. I see it in NBA Twitter. Hell, I even see it in NHL Twitter.

Is Gio a good soccer player? yes, undoubtedly, but you can’t just start the man based on potential alone. He needs to be able to integrate with the squad first, understand each other‘s wavelength in training and then show himself during opportunities in game, that’s all he could do. If he expected to start immediately, then he’s the biggest fool on the planet.

I draw the line when they start shitting on our club that we love.

They also have the baseball World seris that just has American teams in it.
Granted no other countries play though because its shit
Many more countries play baseball than play American Football (baseball is, by some margin, the most popular sport in the Dominican Republic and Cuba, for example).

This did not stop the recent American Football Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs from having open-top buses with „World Champions“ draped all over them during the victory parade after their recent victory.

I remember going to the test match against Australia because it was a day out of school after an hour I was so bored they wouldn't let us leave until normal school times lol never even slightly entertained it since 😅

Soccer!!!

Mod request: In the spirit of correctness (and to playfully annoy our USAMNSFTCOTW cousins) can't we do the autocorrect thing and change the word soccer to football? It's the right thing to do.
Annoying though the term can be to many amongst us GP, "soccer" goes back to Victorian times in this country to differentiate between association and rugby football. That probably explains why as a young boy in the '50s I religiously read a weekly magazine entitled "Soccer Star", and as an adult in the '70s along with my two oldest boys I would regularly watch a Midlands-based highlights show on a Sunday afternoon called "Star Soccer", which IIRC aired well into the '80s.

What I'm trying to say is that it wasn't conjured up by Americans to replace football and, quite frankly, it's not worth getting worked-up about.

And yes, „Soccer“ was a bastardisation of „Association Football“.

Did you watch our most recent game? Was a free for all at times.
I saw West Ham players throwing themselves on the ground if a Forest player went near them. If you want to see a physical contact sport go and watch non-League football. The pussies in the Premier League would have to change their approach when in possession 'cos refs don't give fouls when the wind gusts.

35 years ago the players weren't such great physical specimens but they knew how to take care of themselves on the pitch.

Anyone needing evidence of this could very well watch the highlights of the 1980 European Cup Final (yes, that is a little bit older) and see some of the punishment dished-out to Kevin Keegan by Kenneth Burns and Larry Lloyd.

And not forgetting when Kenneth took his teeth out in the tunnel.

Traumatised Keegan for the rest of his life. 🤣

Lloyd and Keegan of course, were team-mates at the scousers.

As Larry tells it, Keegan approached him in the tunnel as the players were lining up and asked „You’re not going to kick me, are you Larry?“ to which Lloyd replies, „Oh no, Kev. But my mate Burnsie is going go absolutely muller you!“ cue Keegan looking over at Burns, who was at that moment, removing his false teeth.

As can be seen in the footage, Burns gets an early „reducer“ in on Keegan, and the star forward for Hamburger SV was not able to effect the game that much, such was the punishment he received from the two Forest men, who had clearly marked him out as a danger.

Ah, the good old days of football.

Anyway as for Reyna, the lad clearly has potential, but potential is just that; he's not at a level currently where he should be starting games

There's also no reason to when we've got MGW, CHO and Elanga all fit and in form

Agree, but it was a bit strange to see Origi come on and play on the right wing with Elanga moved to the centre - would have been interesting to see Reyna instead at RW (or at LW with CHO switched over). But then Origi flicked the ball out to Neco for the clincher, so what do I know.
