Financial Fair Play (FFP)

Alf-engelos Mindminackers

The Artiste formally known as "Wanksy"
After having time to reflect on this the club really is a mess behind the scenes.
I don't like investing in rumours when they only come from one source, very often it turns out to be false or blown out of proportion.

When more credible sources such as Dan Taylor start claiming things then I sit up and listen more. I still won't invest more than a passing interest in them, he's still a journo who makes bank by making headlines that grab people's attention, but I will take note.

When you then hear rumours to back that up from people who work (or who have worked previously) in football, then a little alarm bell starts ringing.

Then when you hear and read even more rumours from various usually-dependable social media sources concerns start to manifest.

Then when you see absolute basics fumbled by the club, such as miscounting loan players and breaching FFP/PSR limits, that's when I accept a lot of what I've heard previously to be true.

And then when the club keep acting the way it has, such as going for Akpom despite the FFP/PSR situation, that's when I start to despair a bit.

And then when people paint that as some type of prejudice, irrational vendetta against the people causing the cock-ups at the club, that's when I wonder if we're any better than Derby. After Fawaz, I believed our strength was in calling out and addressing issues at the club, not making excuses for them and defending them. It appears not as much as I'd hoped.

I understand you not liking the obvious anger here but why would you think there would be any other feeling? The incomptency of this situation is abysmal. Also as fans we were constantly lied to by Nicolas Randal who said we were always looking at FFP. The financial director bless him told the board and was ignored. How can anyone not look at this and not be angry is remarkable to me. This didnt come as a surprise to us and the fanbase kept asking Randall. What more can the Forest Supporters trust do and the financial dircetor?

However looking at our performances last season and the way we operate in the transfer market how anyone could come to a conlusion that a points deduction wouldnt seriously detriment us I do not know! We are bleeding lucky the 3 promoted teams are unusually turgid this season.
Well, EM was apparently expecting us to finish in the top 12, so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't concerned with a points deduction.

Great post that Emmo. Agree with all of it.

You are right, but you ignore "Collective Board responsibility".
Randall is a very good KC, and he would have hated having to toe the "FFP is fine" line, but as a member of that Board he simply had to, or resign his position.
In the end his frustration overwhelmed him, and he started saying stuff that eventually led to EM getting rid.
It doesn't matter how you dress it up: Nick was fired.

Forest could deduct the £21 million promotion bonuses for their PSR calculation as well as an estimated £17 million for academy, women’s football, community projects and depreciation.

The above was in a Times article by that Martin Ziegler - What changed with the Bonuses something doesn’t sit right with me. It stinks

I'm not sure fired is the correct term, as he remains a Director. He was definitely demoted, removed from role or whatever other term fits though.

That's how I dress it up 😁
He has become an unperson.

To be honest I have more important things in life to get angry about and I've never known a scenario whereby spitting anger at an individual online helps constantly anybody or changes anything. Its is what it is and will be what it will be. We have a chance of survival, that's about all I can take from this situation currently..

Respect that's your take Redders, but it seems like an odd one to me. This is a football forum, most folks come here to discuss - team performance, players performance, managers performance etc. These things are not the most important things in life either - and my take isn't about it being 'spitting anger' at any of those individuals (usually), more that it's the entire purpose of the forum, to enable discussion. I also don't see why the club ownership should be off-limits for similar disucssions.

I think that Marinakis was reasonably sure that we'd be high enough up the table to withstand any points deduction. A gamble that failed and one that must not be repeated.
I question the governance of the club. No recorded minutes of Board meetings? No minutes of the Board meetings of a multi-million pound business employing hundreds of people? I wonder if the records were, in fact, simply withheld? It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened.
Leaving all of that behind, because it is done and gone, what we can do is get 100% behind the team. Every staff member from catering, medical, coaching, playing and cutting the grass needs to give 101% until the season end. We have nine cup finals and we need one more point than Luton. We are better than them. They have enormous spirit (but it might not last until the season end). So, just believe, make the noise, be positive about everything and we will get through this.
U Reds.
As a veteran of hundreds of board meetings over the years I can assure that minutes are not a record of discussions or who said what they ar just a record of decisins taken at those meetings. The legal requirement is for one board meeting per year, most decisions in any corporation are taken in what was always refered to as 'smoke filled corridors'.

Unfortunately there's now a legal requirement for smoking to be done outdoors, so those corridors are now smoke-free. Makes it much harder to get a dodgy agreement put through when we can't hide in the smoke.

Than that was utter delusion though. Our performances although stoic last season were not of a mid table side. Than our transfers were unremarkable again although some nuggets. I would have assessed the situation so much more differently.

Yes, I too have lots of experience of Board meetings. Decisions are taken in may places, including under the duvet, but they are recorded somewhere and a record is kept, no matter how many meetings pa the entity has decided to hold. If you function as a director you have statutory responsibilities and also the common sense task of protecting yourself. Directors acting improperly can and do receive sanctions. I've always made sure that a proper record is kept and that, as a director, I get a copy. If Forest really have done it as casually as it seems, and given the previous careers of the Board members, then I am gobsmacked.

FIAT's owner always said: "for a board to be really effective it should have an odd number of members, and 3 are to many".
Yes, Agnelli. he also ran Juventus. I was going to use that quote!

In the present day, he's wrong though. Government would be easier (but not better) if things did not have to be agreed by Parliament. Ask Sunackered.

You're stating the obvious and preaching to the choir there Emmo.
But then, we don't own the football club. 😁

Does anyone have the ‘league table’ of PL clubs Covid allowances against PSR. I’ve seen it somewhere ( may have been on here? ) with Everton top of the table on £152m(?) And we were allowed F… All being an EFL club at the time.
This one?

Man City is more to do with allegedly falsifying revenues and expenditures.
Allegedly one of the examples is the selling of shirts
6 million shirts sold in the middle east that were never even manufactured
Why didn't we exploit this loophole? We could have had Fawaz 'selling' some of our shirts in Kuwait to try and claw back the family fortune that he wasted.

And people wonder why we voted against giving lower league clubs cash, if we voted yes about 3 minutes before submitting our books we’d have been told that it will be used against our PSR figures and we’d be slapped with another points deduction for breaching by about 50 quid.

Hopefully the seven days to appeal will pass without an appeal from Forest and we can all focus on the task of staying up rather than repeatedly going over the same issues.

I‘ve no doubt it will be revisited when we know our fate.

The year is 2034. Following relegation to the Championship in 2024-25 after a narrow escape the previous season, the reds endured mixed fortunes for several years, with ownership and management of the club changing hands several times. However, following promotion back to the Premier League under the stewardship of Chris Cohen and Andy Reid, the tricky trees are now looking forward to European competition for the first time in three decades.

However, @Alf-engelos Mindminackers is still going on about that time Forest made a speculative bid for Chuba Akpom on loan at the end of the January 2024 transfer window.

Akpom went on to sign for Leicester City the following summer, scoring 15 Premier League goals in 55 appearances for the Foxes, mostly from the bench.
