Ethan Shea Horvath

We say this about reliability and Hovarth being the better keeper - but he’s just conceded 4 goals in a single game.

I’m not having a pop at him, but I’d say it’s a stretch to say he’s been better than Samba.

To be fair though it would have easily been 8 had it not been for him.

You could say the same about Samba in some games as well.

Yeah I agree.

I think this guy is a better shot stopper than Samba but that is it. Samba's distribution & control of the area is miles better from what I have seen so far. The issue for us is we don't utilise Samba's distribution nearly enough.

I'm actually not sure that Samba is a good shot stopper really. His record on pens isn't great... But if he was, he probably wouldn't be here, because as an all round keeper with his command of the area and his distribution especially he is too good for us.

Controversial, but I think that Smith (both the one we have and the previous with that surname) were both much better shot stoppers than Samba is but nowhere near in the other aspects of their position which is why we leaked goals like a sieve with both of them. In regards to Paul Smith you could see the difference with Lee Camp in the side who again wasn't as good a shot stopper but controlled his area well for a small keeper.

Quarantine the Pass

First Team Squad
Horvath will be doing a lot of travelling for the US, the qualifying schedule is pretty arduous. Even if he gets the starting spot he may end up missing games due to scheduling and covid quarantining depending on where he has to fly to.

Talk about fluff your lines.

Samba needed dropping, but Horvath disappointed me massively. Lots of US fans on Twitter have hyped him up, and said he's top tier material.

Looks similarly cacky to Smith on the ball, not convinced he is the answer, probably better than Smith but that's so close it's hard to call after 1 match.

But, in the last 2 he's played we've conceded 6

I wouldn't be too hard on him, come into the team during the most toxic period of the current ownership, team completely out of sorts, a CB playing RB who played the ball back to him.

Partly hopes he plays the next game too and has a blinder, only way to really recover and show what he can do, otherwise it's see you in 3rd round in Jan.

No he didn't. He really didn't.

He did mate. He'd fluffed up way too much to stay in the sticks. IMO it's one of the things which has contributed to the confidence draining from the side (along with many other things)

We weren't winning that tonight with him in goal. The fact that we don't seem to have a suitable replacement currently doesn't mean Samba didn't need a kick up the arse.

That's the club's issue for the past few years since Vrentroz got so involved. Most managers can't rotate players. Same as Lamouchi couldn't drop Grabs for Mir.

Maybe Sambas confidence has gone because of the awful scenes in front of him and terrible results.

Are you talking about Samba or Horvath?

I think that's very much a part of it.

But last year he lost form with a better setup too.

Ultimately, it still all comes back to lack of genuine options in depth. Both for support and competition.

Think we can put this debate to bed

Samba > Horvath

Not sure it was ever a debate, one of them was in the championship team of the season and spent the majority of his time here as captain consistent vs a back up american keeper with a few american twitter fans

Without a doubt, Samba wouldn't have conceded that goal. Ball to feet is his strength.

It's a Bottom-of-the-table-meme though that a new keeper comes in and gifts the opposition a goal.

That’s his coffee-cup moment.

He played like somebody tied his bootlaces together.

He's clearly got the touch of a sledgehammer, didnt inspire anymore confidence than Samba when it came to conceding goals, but the distribution paralell is night & day.

Ultimately whoever goes in currently is tasked with keeping the score down than winning us a game, we dont look like scoring.

And that is the crux of the problem; as Roy of the Rovers said "It's goals that win games".

Well we were talking during the game about his performance even before his gaffe.
He seemed to need 2 goes at collecting everything.

His a decent goalie but not so much good at playing out the back. I'd liken samba to a poor man's Alison becker, good distribution and shot stopper but prone to mistakes if you put him under to much pressure
