He is definitely here as a number 2 to start with, I am not sure why people think otherwise? Any fee we get for Samba won't replace his quality & the amount of points he would win us.

Here is genuine competition for Samba. We know Samba is quality above this level but he can switch off - even if it's competition to keep his levels high in training it is worth it's wages. Best case scenario he turs out better than Samba and takes his place.

I hadn't really heard of him prior to today but based on watching videos he is very controlled in his goalkeeping. It looks like a lot of clubs have watched him for a long time.

It reminds me of De Vries / Darlow, you knew Darlow would eventually leave but you had a backup that could potentially turn out to be better. He is still only young for a GK.
Maybe Brice is leaving, but I agree, it would be good for him to have proper competition for his place.

The MLS is generally a market I hope we explore, the new WP system makes it easier to get players from America (I don't think Dike would have qualified before?) and they are producing some good players at the minute.

I know other sports still take precedence over there, but with a population of 330 million it was only a matter of time. There are always plenty of kids playing 'soccer' on the beaches of Lake Michigan. Younger people tend to prefer it to baseball or that rugby type game they watch.

Agree with others that the USA is definitely a market I'd like to explore further. Some of our American friends on here me here but it's my understanding that because of the worrying injuries and specifically head injuries sustained in American football, parents have been turning their children away from the sport and as a consequence the numbers are shifting from American football to grassroots soccer. It appears that the quality will continue to rise if this is this case.

Yes, there has definitely been a culture shift. Young people in particular mostly like either Basketball or Football now, it was seen as a womens sport to the generation before that.

Games like FIFA probably play a big part too. I am pretty sure they sell more copies in America than the entire of Europe.

Those areas with large Latino communities also have good football followings. Don't forget Canada either as a potential market.

The USA and Canada are very good at producing the 'athlete', which in modern football is half the battle, especially in a league like the Championship where it doesn't always come down to pure footballing ability.

This could be a very clever signing, Samba hasn't let us down but to me he looked shadow of G.K last season compared to season before,
Hopefully better competion for his place will kick him on again because he's had it way to easy with Smith being his main rival...

Look at people like Deontay Wilder. He was a college football and basketball player until very late on, but his natural and coached athleticism has taken him to boxing champion of the world. Think he started boxing at 20. You don’t often see English sportspeople changing sport that late on in their life.

Many US athletes are true two-sporters, especially with baseball and American football.

All you gotta do is scout our college system, doesnt take a hackerman to watch Stanford destroy everyone in the NCAA yearly tournament.

Still tho, on the west coast we do have some academy’s for Mexican league teams because of the Latino presence.

But like I said, we should have a few gems in our college system. We just don’t have an outlet for post-uni soccer, they just end up attempting the USL/NASL or get a job with their degree lol.

I'd say Brice was one of our players who probably missed the fans most. He loves playing up to the crowd and since he'd became a bit of a fan favourite it must have felt like a 100-0 for him playing in empty stadiums

Ash Barty played cricket for a while as well.

In a bygone age it used to be true in Britain too, Forest’s own Billy Gunn also played cricket for Notts, and represented England internationally in both sports. He was also one half of the “Gunn & Moore” Cricket bat company

Good to see our customary signing of a new goalkeeper is concluded

Hopefully they’ll start to focus on a few outfield players now

Re: Ethan Shea Hovarth

Not sure why we would want to sell Samba at all. Surely the club will want 2 good keepers at the club. It only takes an injury to set you back massively. It doesn't make sense to sell Samba especially when this lad was on a free.

I totally agree with you, but its clear none of us really know what the club are planning and this signing is proof, I couldn't be more happy tbh, let the pros get on with doing their job and hopefully we can enjoy watching a successful Forest team....

I also really doubt many on here know anything about how much ££ we can and can't spend this year, yes there are some obvious general pointers based on FFP/Covid/ public availability of accounts and large squad wage bill, but none of that means we don't have financial scope.

I for one am really encouraged by everything recently the club is letting us see
Whether we spend or not, in Hughton I trust.

I think the point here is that our scouts think this is a good player who's worth money. Therefore if we can get him on a free we're getting for less than we think he's worth. No brainer.

A decent debut tonight. Strong and vocal. Was let down by the wall for the goal, didn't stand a chance.

He set the wall up tho, no? Obviously didn’t watch live so can’t comment

He probably didn't expect Cafu on the end of the wall to for some reason duck and try to get his boot up 7ft rather than actually jump to head it.
