i don't understand how lampard gets slated by some england fans the guy has scored over 120 premier league goals from midfield and has more goals for england than any other midfielder in last 20 years the guys a legend

GK’s: Hart, Foster, Ruddy
Def’s: Walker, Richards, Cahill, Terry, Lescott, A Cole, Baines
Mid’s: Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Carrick, Parker, Chamberlain, Young, Sinclair, Lennon
Fwd’s: Rooney, Crouch, Holt, Sturridge

Change Lennon for Dyer and Ruddy for Carson and this is the squad I would choose.

The reason I'd take Carroll over Holt isn't because he playes for Liverpool or because he cost load of money but because he's quite obviously got bags of potential and he's done well in his sparing England appearances so far. If Holt was younger then he'd be worth a go but what's the point in taking an untested 32 year old to a tournament? Had Wilshere and Cleverley played more games this season then I'd have taken them under the same premise.

Tournaments aren't for players with "potential", they are for players that have proved they can deliver. Holt has delivered this season and Carroll has been abysmal.

In most tournaments I'd agree but I don't think we've got much hope with this group of players so I'd be picking a squad with one eye on the next phase of internationals.

Besides, Holt's hardly proven at World level and you'd still be taking a chance. At least Carroll has played and done well for England.

look at lampards record in the premier league and tell me he won't go down as a legend in 30 or 40 years time when he has score well over 130 league goals from midfied thats alot more than gerrard

Hedging bets: Hodgson waiting on injuries before deciding to take Terry
England boss could be forced into selecting the Chelsea captain for Euro 2012 if he is low on alternatives

The more I read this thread and some of the players mentioned, the less likely I am to even bother watchng an England game. I can't see us scoring a goal.

Can you put bets on for finishing bottom of the group?

Just don’t bother watching them then… Don’t understand why there is so much negativity, nobody can predict what will happen in tournament football. Personally I’m quite looking forward to it.

Really no Kyle Walker? And you would take Stuart Downing with his mighty 1 goal and 4 assists this season?

Gerrard and lampard are game changers lamps has been in great form lately an has to start who would you rather see instead that gets goals from midfield theres not many players out there...

Have I missed something? Haven't we tried this combination before?
For about 7 years they've been golden balls for their clubs, but as a pairing they've been utter failures for England.

I'd possibly have Gerrard in there with Parker.
IMO Lampard is a good player, but much like Wellbeck he looks better than he is because he's been around superb players and also takes a lot of pens.
Also Crouch must start!
