I think I would go with this but would have Gerrard instead of Carrick. I know Gerrard is one of the old regulars under previous managers but he has not played much this season so will still be pretty fresh. Carrick should be part of the squad as he is still quality with the ball.

Chamberlain is a must for the squad and a must for the starting eleven. If the new manager can persuade Scholes to go that would be brilliant. He deserves one last shot at a major tournament.

I hope whoever the new manager is goes with youth instead of the same old names.

Terry and Cahill should start and I wouldn't even take Ferdinand.

Chose Carrick ahead of Gerrard because Carrick has been part of the best English CM partnership along with Scholes this season. Gerrard has hardly featured all season and is far better suited for a CAM position rather than a CM position where he has been quite mediocre for England. Would take Ferdinand as cover at CB along with Lescott, Smalling and Phil Jones.

Fair point about Carrick. Do you think Scholes will go if asked?

I still wouldn't take Ferdinand as the three names you mentioned will provide enough cover. I'm also not sure how things stand between Terry and Ferdinand.

It depends who asked him really - if it was Sir Alex Ferguson or someone like Redknapp as opposed to Capello in the past then I think he would go.

Good point about Ferdinand too, I overlooked the row with Terry and Anton and on further consideration probably wouldn't want to unsettle the squad by taking Ferdinand.
