Douglas Alan „Dougie“ Freedman

From what I remember of Freedman last year, he brought in Jutkiewicz and Danns and played a long ball game. Don't remember him playing a passing game when he had the option of hoofball and I'm fully expecting the aimless punts to Antonio may well continue.

Watching the last few months under Pearce was terrible he seemed lost and ran out of excuses I'm sure freedman will do better with this squad and we will move up the table...

For the first time, I've just realised we've got a new manager. Quite looking forward to hearing him speak at the press conference tomorrow. Feels like he doesn't really exist at the moment. I think the sacking and very fast hiring made it all a bit surreal.

Danny Taylor (guardian) tweets that Dougie's contract is only until end of the season

As per:

@DTguardian: Throw me in the Trent if it's wrong but been told Dougie Freedman's contract is only until end of season, initially #nffc

Very strange if so.

Someone lined up for summer, if so why not wait?

I think there was a genuine fear Pearce would take us down. Freedman to keep us up, then someone like Petrescu for the future. At a guess.

Maybe Fawaz is learning. A more realistic contract. If he does well maybe it will be renewed.

I think that's quite unfair. What allegiance does Freedman have to Pearce?

I can understand your question being directed at Fawaz but if you're an out of work manager and somebody approaches you, what are you supposed to do? Not talk to them, because the club already has a manager? It's up to Fawaz to do it the right way and he hasn't handled it at all well.
How times have changed.

So the coaching staff have gone too. Carry on up the city ground.

You make a valid point about Freedman taking the job but surely Fawaz has acted decisively in this.

There's no limbo period and it didn't get out prior to Pearce leaving, so I reckon he's due some credit there to be fair.

He'll get us organized at least. Looking at where we are I'd say he is realistically as good as we can get now.

Wasn't SP the boring, organised coach? Thought Dougie was more attack minded. Just hope people don't complain about losing 4-3 every week

Understandable for some of them, but why the physio ?

Stuart Pearce brought him in, maybe he's shown some commendable loyalty to his boss.

I have no problem with the coaching staff going at all to be honest. A manager needs to work with people he's comfortable with and can trust.

We do like paying out people's contracts don't we?

I always wonder how much these people are on. Anyone any idea what a standard wage is for championship assistant manager? To be honest I've no idea how much the managers get paid.

Not that strange as such probably the best thing to do really I'd say.

A chance for Freedman to earn himself a future to show us all he can take us forward in a way that we all want.

If memory serves, Warnock and a few others were offered the same option last season when we sacked Davies.

Take over til the end of the season, try to get us in the playoffs, and then we'll look at your contract/performance in the summer.

Fair play to Freedman for taking on the challenge. Braver/more stupid man than most.

Interesting peice on DF, suits us at least.........

“I was taught at a young age that money shouldn’t motivate you and if you follow that path you will trip up,” says Freedman. “I *followed it once, tripped up and I will never do it again.

“I earned more money at Wolves but friendships and life went back three or four years. I was thrown out of that club six months later.”

It was Neil Warnock who recognised his talent as a coach. “I gave Dougie his first coaching role at Palace because we were skint and couldn’t afford a backroom staff,” said Warnock. “You just get a feeling about people and I had that with Dougie. He worked incredibly hard and I always thought he could make a success out of coaching and management when he hung up his boots.
