Fawaz gave us the gift of the Bomb squad.
Bobby has now given us the gift of the Monged Squad.

Billy DaviesWho's the short arse top right hand corner? Rick Astley?
Must have done that after Santos went back. I'm not surprised - we had a run of signing/targeting athlete types a while back, and we have some units throughout. There's only really Montiel, Williams and maybe Morgan and Callum under six foot - I'm struggling to think of others... Elanga maybe?I was surprised by this
Over the 20th the average height in the UK increased by 10cm or 4 inches.I think the population in general is taller than it was. I was photographed in my school first XI in the late 50s and I was the tallest by a margin and I'm only 5'11". Now my sons in law tower over me and they are not regarded as tall.
That one is simply because they're the older ones in the age group and being nearly a year older than the rest of the people you're playing with/against can be a big advantage (provided that it correlates with being physically stronger/bigger or similar advantages).Over the 20th the average height in the UK increased by 10cm or 4 inches.
Footballers have long been selected for height, although there have been many short-arses.
The other related issue here, definitely one for our podcast, the distribution of months that Footballer's are born, with more born between September and December. https://www.nationalfootballmuseum....lers-more-likely-to-be-born-before-christmas/
There are loads of studies into this. I think the most comprehensive was done on Canadian ice hockey players. That one is simply because they're the older ones in the age group and being nearly a year older than the rest of the people you're playing with/against can be a big advantage (provided that it correlates with being physically stronger/bigger or similar advantages).
It's supposed to even out but that assumes younger kids haven't fallen behind, and there's plenty of exceptions of good players born in the spring/summer.
If they cut off in January instead of September for things more then we'd see the same effect with Jan/Feb/March births being dominant for the same reason.
Be interesting to look at though
Yes, it's been mentioned a few times (I think even once when we had Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski as our tennis players who are both born a year apart in September) but in reality the correlation probably doesn't exist in older children or adults. There are loads of studies into this. I don't think anyone is in danger of getting them mixed up.Is Hwang the new Origi?
Injuries that mean players won't be back in 2 weeks? What witchcraft is this?Hwang is injured. Hamstring and probably not fit for 6 to 8 weeks.
I'm not totally sure the mathematics of deducting the Goalkeepers from the number of players available for the starting 11+subs works. But you are right, the AFCON definitely restricts our options. To use Nuno's seemingly recent favourite phrase, "we will have to find solutions'.The constraints of a 25 man squad (excluding 21yrs old and under) are clear now:
Forest have 6 players at AFCON.
Awoniyi, Felipe, Origi, and Elanga areout injured.
Tavares is absolute crap.
There are 3 goalkeepers (trade descriptions act breached there).
So by my rough calculation were are for the next few weeks having to select 11 starting players plus 9 on the bench from an available squad of 12.
But haven't you seen our goalkeepers?I'm not totally sure the mathematics of deducting the Goalkeepers from the number of players available for the starting 11+subs works. Can't play for us if we want to sell or loan out again thoughMighten and Hwang have both returned to Forest after their respective loans were ended.
Wait whatBut haven't yoyu seen our goalkeepers?
I have - but it would still be bold/suicidal to pick a team without one at all.But haven't you seen our goalkeepers?
On the park we regularly had rush goalies...I have - but it would still be bold/suicidal to pick a team without one at all.
Vlach would probably take it as a compliment..."Odysseas, nobody is actually better than you"
I mean, I’m no great football tactician, but I’m thinking there’s probably a reason why no professional team has ever employed a rush goalie system. On the park we regularly had rush goalies...
Oh I don’t know, Carlisle United did it famously with Jimmy Glass, and that worked out all right for them in the end!I mean, I’m no great football tactician, but I’m thinking there’s probably a reason why no professional team has ever employed a rush goalie system.
