Carlos Miguel Ribeiro Dias - Cafú

I like Cafu but reality is he struggled to break through over two seasons in the league below under two different managers.

He's categorically not going to be good enough in the Premier League. Even if we can't get a much better player in ahead of him, it would still make sense to give his backup space to a younger player with more potential to grow.

Sorry Cafu.

The point is he barely made an appearance last year, even when a game seemed like it would have benefitted from his introduction.

Once keepers are accounted for we've also only got 22 places for senior pros, so not much space for passengers. Looks like Bong bought a lot to the party behind the scenes, but I'm not sure it's keep him around based on that...

Moreover I was under the impression Cafu was out of contract?
I never said you should keep Cafú in your list of 25. I merely said that he may have a role to play until you get your midfield right (which will only happen at the end of the window, because you'll be waiting for Garner), and this means that from August 6 when the Premier starts to September 2 when you need to declare your list of 25, he may have a chance to fulfill the dream of making an appearance in the Premier, which would be nice.

I admire your sense of sentimentality (though I'm sure we'd all love to fulfill our dream of playing for Forest in the top flight, regardless of talent.)

I'm not sure he'd want to wait that long before deciding on his future though.

Cafu seems a great bloke, but if we decided to upgrade both goalkeeper positions this summer, I can’t see how Cafu survives the cull.

And let’s be honest. Whilst we all like the lads who give 100% if we are going into the premier league with looking to Cafu to play serious minutes in CM we are in big trouble.
He’s just not good enough-I can’t see any other team in the division that wont easily dominate a midfield of Yates and Cafu and if we give up the midfield we will get crucified….
Coops showed he’s not sentimental in how he dealt with Figs and Brice. We need more of the same and two quality CM signings

That’s a hell of a risky strategy Greek. Whether Garner comes or not Cafu isn’t tge answer

Whether Cafú stays for August or leaves immediately, this is the strategy you will most likely take. You need to wait for Garner, and, having in mind that you may get him, there is no point in bringing in two central midfielders as starters before the Garner situations is sorted out, because then you will run the risk of either having three starters for two slots or abandoning Garner altogether.

Put more simply, for the two positions of central midfielders the best scenario is:
August: new guy, Yates / Colback, Cafú
September: new guy, Garner (or other new guy) / Yates, Colback.

If you don't like Cafú in that equation, you can put in his place Fornah, Ojeda or anyone else. Regardless of Cafú however, this is the path you will most likely take.

I get the logic Greek but the third scenario is we get into September having failed to make CM signings that take us up a level (the minimum) and we are in the shit.
For me, however you look at it Cafu isn't good enough in the Prem and its fairer to let him go IMO.

On the issue of Garner, I really don't think we can count any chickens there. A new manager at Manure means all bets are off as far as I am concerned and looking at the situation I'd say theres 80%+ chance he stays there, so we need to move on from that particular siren call....

I'm not 100% sure Jimbo is the complete answer to our need to strengthen midfield.
To my mind we need someone with the staure and physicality of a Keinan Davis, but the agile mind and football brain of Kevin de Bruyne.
Garner looked really good in the Championship, but I'm not sure he has that physicality to stamp his authority on the game when we are playing against the Premiership teams week in and week out.

I agree. To qualify that a little, I thunk Garner might develop into a top quality CM player at that level but I think it will take a couple more seasons. I think he could do a good job now in a 3 alongside an experienced, dominant player as well as Yates but it would be a job, not running the game...

If you are to have a steady presence in the Premier, you need players that will grow and improve alongside the team. Garner looks to fit that role.

I'm not going to argue with you on that one Greek-the unfortunate fact however is that hes not at a French or German club where we could possibly pick him up for a reasonable sum (say 10M) Manure are a different proposition and as I have said before if I were Ten Haag I'd keep him even if its an insurance policy to throw on in a few games to pacify the fans if things are a bit bumpy...

So are there limits on PL squads?

Seems odd when you see players come on for big clubs in cup games wearing numbers in the 60s.

Unless there are stupid limits I'd have Cafu around to come on as a sub, if nothing else. He has a lot to offer.

25 players aged 21 and over, you can have as many as you want under that

Said it before, he’d be a good man to have in the squad. If only as cover.
