Carlos Miguel Ribeiro Dias - Cafú

Good comparison and maybe no coincidence being involved with England previously. It will take something special to take him and even then it won't happen unless Cooper thinks he can improve them.

I hope you are right my mate. I do think he is astute enough not to just clutch at any prem job offered.

Please can the football gods let him score the goal to send us up

2nd to take a penalty after not even touching the ball. I think it says it all. The guy is a gem, he really is.

Balls. The guy has them.

So do all our penalty takers tonight, but particularly Cafu given he hadn't been involved up until that point. We've seen with England in the Euros how much pressure that is to take one without having a kick

Now that you're playing with the big boys and all your targets have 8 digits on their price tag, no one cares about poor old Cafú. And yet he may still have a role to play: if the baseline scenario is to get one midfielder now and then wait till the end of the window for Garner (or someone instead of Garner), this would mean that you would start the season with new guy, Yates, and Colback. Clearly not enough.

So, I'd suggest you keep Cafú till the end of the window, have him play for a few minutes and only after you finish recruiting for the midfield let him go. The lad deserves to fulfill his dream of playing in the Premier (even if only for a couple of games).

Trust us, we haven't forgot about Cafu.

Cafú could actually be a decent Squad player, a midfielder you bring on when you want to close-out a game.

Yeah I agree I would keep him.

As said above he is actually decent when he comes off the bench and he will be a good guy to have around, I think that’s why there has been no rumours about him departing.

Cafu and Lolley will have a part to play. We can magic a new team out of nowhere! I'm not sure Mighton will though, I can see him being loaned out

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
Cafu actually has a phenomenal first touch.

Really surprised me.

That’ll teach you to get into a crowded lift with him

He's a lovely guy and all that, but he barely got a sniff in the Championship. Why on earth would we suddenly think he's going to step up in the Premier League?

That's not what people are saying.

I'm sure that nobody thinks he's going to be starting games, and in the majority of games (assuming our recruitment continues as intended) he probably won't even be on the bench. But for a while now football has been a squad game, so there is a need for players beyond the first eleven and their direct cover - we will have injuries during the season, so he's a good option to have effectively as "backup to the backups" given that he's reasonably versatile, seemingly has a fantastic attitude, doesn't take time to readjust after not playing for a while, and probably is on relatively cheap wages.

It's quite possible (maybe even probable) that he plays zero league minutes - but that doesn't mean he hasn't contributed. In much the same way that we all (not meaning any offence to him) hope Jordan Smith doesn't step on the pitch next season - it's still better to have him in the squad than to run with just two keepers and risk having to rely on a nervous debutant from the youth team if they both get injured.

He’s not good enough. Would be surprised if he made more than 5 apps next season. I’d keep for squad depth.

I think the biggest difference next year will be the 5 subs. It will certainly add an extra element to Cooper's tactics, I'm sure.

The point is he barely made an appearance last year, even when a game seemed like it would have benefitted from his introduction.

Once keepers are accounted for we've also only got 22 places for senior pros, so not much space for passengers. Looks like Bong bought a lot to the party behind the scenes, but I'm not sure it's keep him around based on that...

Moreover I was under the impression Cafu was out of contract?

Can't keep him around for being a nice bloke in the dressing room. Similar to Lolley, Mighten and whoever else we have hanging around. If they're not contributing on the pitch then we have to be open to offers to take them elsewhere. That's surely what the player would want as well.

I said at the start of the summer I thought we needed 12 players in ideally but at least 10, that doesn't include replacing players that leave. That's so that we don't have to rely on the squad players of last season to be squad players this season.
