Carlos Miguel Ribeiro Dias - Cafú

If that volley had hit the back of the net I reckon I was jumping through a window.
Been very sharp, deserves some more minutes.

I thought that volley was a terrific effort and sometimes that sort of shot will rocket into the net. It was quality just to make decent contact and a bloody good try.

Top bloke and a squad player but I think he was a real handful when he came on last night.
Both him and Surridge have come on in games and played well, yet not really been given the chance to start too many games.

You've got to give him credit, he tries hard, he has passion and no small amount of technique.
The game against Liverpool illustrated why he hasn't got to a higher level and that's a lack of pace and mobility. Such a shame because if he had that he's have been a wonderful footballer....

Couldn’t agree more. His touch is quality and he oozes ability. He’s just a little slow and ponderous to be a really top level player. But I think he’s a fantastic player at this level

Tremendous passion even when he isn't playing.

I mean, how can you not like the guy? A real team player.

Comes on and tries his hardest. Isn't the worst player ever either. Deserves a start against Blackpool in my opinion.

I thought the volley had gone in for a brief moment from my seat in upper TE. Only a brief moment :(

Attended some open training sessions with his old portugese club Vitória during the international break, the same club Figs was supposed to join in January

Also the club that Tiago Silva and Alfa Semedo play for. Looks like there's going to be a bit of a reunion there next season

I know all of you were watching Laryea and Johnson here, but take a look at Cafú as well. He steals the ball, passes immediately and correctly to Johnson, makes an immediate run to be available for the pass, sees that Laryea gets to the ball first, continues his run alongside him, obstructs the defender who's trying to get to Laryea with his hand, changes direction twice to be available for a pass, cuts inside when he sees that Laryea will go for the cross.

Nothing spectacular, but those who do the work properly sometimes make the difference without being noticed.

I’ve always liked Cafu.

Not flashy, not spectacular, just a solid squad player, who can fill a number of roles.

Sure but the question is does he get a new contract or do you (or more accurately Dane) back yourself to get better with that money?.

My main problem with Cafu is hes blocking some of our young lads who naturally would occupy that position on the bench by this stage in the season when injuries mean there are spaces. I really think we should have been blooding a few more of our young players where opportunities are there.

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
Fornah and Ojeda should be replacing Cafu and potentially Garner (although that might be a step too far for them both)

There's a time and a place to blood youngsters. Cooper won't allow a pathway to be blocked If the time is right for a younger player. Cafu has been around the block a bit, he's a proper team guy and he never lets anyone down. He's tough as old boots and he brings a tough bastard with a cool head to the table.

I hear what you're saying but it would be doing it for the sake of it. The dynamic is working and there's no need to change it because the balance between youth and experience is currently spot on.

It is not like we are not blooding youngsters either.

You need a mix of experience and youth, we have a perfect balance for me.

Hope you are right and I do see a role for an experienced head like Cafu in the situation we are in.
I'd also applaud him blooding one of the youngsters because the experience would accelerate their development like nothing else.

I absolutely love Cafu. Anyone that's been around a changing room will know he's one of those guys you want around. If I could choose one player to get us a massive winner in one of the remaining games it would be this guy

He was one of the better players under Hughton.

That's all the validation a footballer needs.

Didn't show anything expansive but was good technically, short passing and good control.

Once Cooper works his magic on him, he's another one who will look twice the player.

Amazing attitude by the lad. Cooper has got the squad harmony up to the levels Southgate has with England. But but cooper actually has the tactical nouse as well. Just hope we can hold on to cooper.

Good comparison and maybe no coincidence being involved with England previously. It will take something special to take him and even then it won't happen unless Cooper thinks he can improve them.
