Marinakis Snr, a diehard Oly fan, got involved in 1979, when football in Greece became professional and football companies were formed. Olympiacos was acquired by a group of ship owners, led by Stavros Daifas and including Loukas Hadjiioannou whom the article mentions (he was the father of the owners of EasyJet) and Miltiadis Marinakis. The latter's moment of Olympiacos glory came later, when he was the only small shareholder who refused to sell his stocks to two notorious swindlers who took over the club after 1987 and nearly ran it aground, Giorgos Koskotas and Argyris Saliarelis.
