Milan, or Meeeeeelan?!Interestingly Richard, as a result of being founded by an Englishman (Nottingham's very own Herbert Kilpin), AC Milan is still written and largely pronounced the English way - although as time has passed, there may be slightly more emphasis on the first syllable in the way you describe.
I was in the Kilpin pub in town during the summer when a few Italian tourists were there. They seemed slightly underwhelmed by how little acknowledgement there is towards Italian football, let alone Herbert Kilpin. Other than a handful of mounted photos featuring old Milan players, there's very little else other than some generic Italian memorabilia (framed map, cycling poster etc). Oh, and a Forest scarf behind the bar.Milan, or Meeeeeelan?!
I am confused.
But, indeed, they are fondly known as „Milan“ and not, of course, „Milano“!
If you ever visit Milan, their fans do love Herbert Kilpin. Tell them you‘re from Nottingham, you’ll at least get a free drink or two out of it.
Have they painted over the old Mural in there then Otis? One wall used to be covered with a montage of Milan-related graphics?I was in the Kilpin pub in town during the summer when a few Italian tourists were there. Yes Chris, for some reason, it has been painted over. Oddly, it hasn't been replaced by anything else.Have they painted over the old Mural in there then Otis? One wall used to be covered with a montage of Milan-related graphics?
Safe to say, in Meeeelan, especially in bars frequented by Milan Tifosi, Signor Kilpin is a cause to be celebrated.
Well, that is a disappointment.Yes Chris, for some reason, it has been painted over. Oddly, it hasn't been replaced by anything else.
