We're comfortably the third-worst team in the league. I'm not sure where other's confidence comes from that we will have an upturn in form this month.

We've weakened the starting XI in January, added an unknown quantity in goal, and not to write him off but Sangare is average, to replace Mangala who is average+.

Everton will get some points back from their first deduction which will see them go back above us, and then we'll both get a similar punishment for this round of FFP breaches, which will see us stay below them. Everton will be fine, and we'll need to finish above Luton by whatever our points deduction is, and I can't even see us doing that without a points penalty.

Mismanagement into FFP breaches has killed us, and now Luton's form and their superior goal difference will likely see us down.
I agree with most of that-but we do have some of our best players returning from injury (Awoniyi,Elanga
and Gibbs-White plus Niakhate,Boly and Sangare from AFCON).
I’ve not given up all hope yet but I agree that mismanagement of the club is likely to kill us (sadly not for the
first time in the history of Nottingham Forest.).

Same deal as it has been all season for me, Awoniyi back + better keeper in = fighting chance. Had we started the season with a better keeper I've no doubt that we'd be significantly higher up the table now, especially if Awoniyi had stayed fit

The kicker is potentially gonna be the FFP/PSR deduction, who knows how that's gonna pan out.

You do make a good point about Mangala & Sangare though, Sangare really needs to step up now. And there's obviously nothing to say that the new keeper is any better either, but we just have to hope. So I am hopeful, but I'll admit it's hope based on faith more than logic.

On the pitch i'm confident, bold even. Games that i would write off are now entering the "who knows" category because of what we saw against Newcastle and United, the last time we had our full squad available which Nuno decided to drop Mangala for.

Off the pitch, the optics just don't look good. If i put on my tinfoil hat it looks like Everton are fighting tooth and nail, all sorts talking out on their behalf constantly and not to mention those stupid PL Corrupt cards that every blue Scouser is holding up at every opportunity during games. Whereas we are helping the coppers put the handcuffs on.
It just stinks of a "Well, if we are to take points off one team lets keep it equal so say 6 a piece? Agreed? Can't give those Scousers a worst punishment or they'll never shut the f*** up"

Of course its going to be contested by the big shot lawyers and what have you, but i don't trust any committee that is apparently independent of the PL to be fair and just. Like who decided a breach was 6pts and 1pt for each 5mil over? Why 1? Why 5mil? Who are these people?

Actually its Saturday night what the f*** am i doing annoying myself about this case again!!

Still think we'll finish on or about 40 pts minus whatever deduction we get, so it depends how pessimistic you feel about that. I think/guess/hope we'll be ok.

We shouldn’t have played a full strength team against Blackpool x2, and Bristol imo.

Not so much for the energy levels, but it must be soul destroying that you can’t beat them. Then we rolled into the next premier league game on the back of not beating them.

The mood was so positive after Man U, now we’ve lost to Brentford and Arsenal, and we all know what’s coming tomorrow at AFC Solanke.

Hope I’m wrong though, I feel we’re just as bad as last season but without the spirit (and Steve).

I think the FFP charge has slaughtered us-not the FA Cup games.

The mood in this house has dipped a bit since I was sounding so bullish earlier in the year. I really can't, with any confidence, see wins on the horizon.

We have a defence which always has a mistake in it and we have an attack with players who can score a goal, but not really any goalscorers. A recipe for concern.

As of Gameday 22, we are four points worse off than we were last year when we were 14th, to our 17th position currently. However, I should note that both Burnley and Sheffield United are five and four points worse off than Bournemouth and Southampton were last season at this stage. Sheffield United have a really bad goal difference so that's essentially another point off.

I think Sheffield United have resigned themselves to the fact they're going down and since the window is now closed, there is very little they can do to alter their fate. I feel similarly about Burnley.

That leaves realistically, a mini table of Everton, Luton, us, Brentford and Palace for that final relegation spot. Palace will change manager soon and have the players to pull clear when that happens, as do Brentford now Toney is back. I think that leaves it between us, Everton and Luton. Luton have been unbeaten since the 30th of December and they're in-form. Everton don't seem to score a lot but they're also not getting beat much either.
I look at the squad and I do feel like we have a squad that could be comfortably midtable but that is based on the idea that Elanga, MGW and Awoniyi are all fit and on form.

Feel like we will get the same amount of points deducted as Everton, so as much as anything, we've got to get more than them. On top of the deductions, I think we've probably got to win at LEAST another seven games this season. Because at least two wins worth of points will be chalked off.

A lot of football to play but this is my long winded way of saying that I think our time in the Premierleague has probably come to an end. I'll confess, I'm not all that cut up about that either. This season has actually been pretty f***ing miserable and regardless of the outcome, I'll be glad to put it behind us.

Were the almost cliche team of “they should have enough to avoid the drop” and by the end of the season we’ll realise we did, we just didn’t have the togetherness/form in that squad.

Goalkeeper has been a disaster obviously, but I think we’ll look back on the whole back four being poor - compared with last season too.

RB’s all poor, and as much as I love him, I think we’ll regret throwing Murillo into CB - it’s a relegation scrap and he’s a Rolls Royce.

The CM has been a complete disaster with Danilo, Yates, Sangare, Mangala, or any other not being solid enough to shield the CB’s.

CHO has so far been a bad signing, not what we need in our position.

Strikers is another desperate story with injuries. Origi is a joke, but Wood has deservedly received credit.

MGW, Elanga, Wood are probably the only ones who will come out of the season positively.

We seem too light weight, and not quite up to the pace and strength of the Ptemier League for some reason. Feels like we just don’t want to battle when it gets tough.

We were sinking fast under Cooper. We were too scared and timid to get on the front foot.

But under Nuno we look capable of really taking it to teams and I honestly feel we are capable of a result against anyone in the league.

We have Taiwo and Elanga coming back in. Reyna is a genuine talent, too. We will score goals and we will win games.

No points deduction? We stay up comfortably.

6-10 point deduction? Could be trouble.

Newbie here on this board. Lurking for the past 5 years. I really wouldn't think any regular poster is more glass half empty in character than me, but I can't believe the dark mood here.
Maybe it's because I can't go to matches and don't see the full picture , but everyone's thinking the worst as if we are already relegated.
Get a grip please everyone. You know it makes sense. There's plenty of fight in the old dog yet!

I see nothing in Nuno’s approach that makes us harder to beat than Cooper’s setup.

Difference being that Cooper deliberately played a low block, low possession game completely designed around Awoniyi, who got injured.

Nuno has us playing a more progressive and we definitely have more of the ball, but we still ship goals for fun and have no real attacking “style”. Whenever the opposition have the ball, wherever on them pitch, I genuinely worry that a goal is coming.

I hope Boly / Niakate returning has an impact, and Awoniyi manages to stay fit. I can’t see the next win currently, those cup games have sucked any remaining optimism from me, they were turgid.

We are literally a few weeks since beating Newcastle and United back-to-back.

Fair point.

We just can’t win the games we “should” and pick up random wins against the top four.

We’ll end up losing to Luton, Burnley, Sheff U, Palace, Fulham and beat City at home. It doesn’t help us, as we lose the “six pointers” I.e. Brentford.

We had a decimated squad.

When we have had players available, Nuno has had us looking good.

Don't talk sense, the wrist-slitters don’t like it.
I get it. I have been there. And I'm certainly not going to rose tint the bollocks happening off the pitch.

But I think it's undeniable that Nuno has turned around our mentality and I think there's a very strong argument that with our best players available I think we are a side that should be comfortably safe.

The points deduction is another matter.
