But matching us wouldn't be enough (ordinarily). I do think we'll match their results easily enough so normally I wouldn't be too worried about them catching us. But we have to surpass them and by quite a bit (7 more than them points I reckon to be on the safe side if we do get 10 points deducted). I'd take a 5 point deduction now because that is very doable. 6-7 I'd be fairly confident. 8-10 point deduction will be nip and tuck. Any more than 10 points then I don't think we can survive that.
If it is a base of -6 points simply for failing the test, and then -1 point for every £5m or part thereof, and if the EPL are in hard bastard mode, -10 points looks likely.
And is £20m over the limit a high, low of just about right guestimate?

I'm hoping there will be some leniency shown but the cynic in me suspects that we'll get in the 8-12 bracket, which at the minute will probably relegate us. Everton are the wild card at the minute because we don’t know what sort of punishment they'll get. If they got another 10 points (and the current deduction stands) we may just scrape survival. All this conjecture is doing my head in. I just wish we knew.

Three clean sheets this season in the league.

Chelsea away: McKenna, Worrall, Boly central defenders. Aina and Aurier as wingbacks.

Palace away: Toffolo, Aurier, Boly, Murillo. Back 4.

Villa at home: Toffolo, Niakhate, Murillo, Aina. Back 4.

Forest kept another clean sheet tonight, albeit the FA Cup. So that's 4 clean sheets. Another one for Murillo.

Are we beginning to see a pattern of who the best defenders are?

It shows a big centre back with Murillo but with such a small sample size it could be argued that the law of averages applies

Yes, first impression was you can't really draw anything out of that data especially because four clean sheets from twenty five odd souls really be expected.

Without the threat of a points deduction, I'd be reasonably confident of safety, all the attacking players are back fit, AFCON boys coming back soon, just sort a top class GK and things will look up. It was a decent performance against one of the top sides apart from 2 avoidable mistakes.

As Nuno mentioned in his post match interview, Forest handled more difficult situations than the 2 they conceded from.

It really does all boil down to those gift-goals for me.

All the positives in the world won't change anything until they are addressed (properly).

Players coming back, "playing more attacking to suit Wood", Omo looking good etc. All nice, but counts for naught if the opposition get a free goal every game.

We're still far from down, but things need to change personnel wise in the squad.

Yes definitely, the cycle of having addressed the previous mistakes, so that we can make new ones has to stop.

I hope we don't think we are too good to go down.

We defendeed stoutly for 60mins. Lots of passes into feet that were dealt with.

The manner in which we conceded two goals then was very very poor.

Some fight at the death but all in all a soulless showing that the Cooper-in crowd might have feared.

On that showing I don't think Arsenal are that good, I think we're that bad. A complacent Newcastle and Man u we don't face for some time.

In all honesty, I can't wait for this season to end no matter what the outcome. Selling Brennan, Wasting money on more shit, Sacking Steve, FFP breaches, injuries to key players etc.. Feels like the club went from being a rebel club from a rebel city to just like the rest of them. Even the City Ground is a shell of itself.

I hope for the club, we can find ourselves a goalkeeper and keep the best players fit. Maybe we'll get far enough away from the black hole of relegation, that the points deduction won't matter.

Really hope we don't sell Mangala and then spunk the money before the window on more short-term solutions beyond a keeper and a wide player. I suspect we won't learn our lesson though.
