The Joe Lolley Retirement

He's never been the same player really since covid. After lockdown (where the enforced break might not have helped as well) and the frequency of games to finish the season he presumably exacerbated his condition, which needed treated over that shorter preseason, and then he probably came back too soon.

I do wonder if his loss of form is physical or not though. Cooper basically intimated last season Lolley was fit. Which seems to imply some sort of mental/confidence issue, people noticed he lost that half yard of pace which got him past defenders, maybe he doesn't trust his calves to do the extra distance needed, maybe he just needs a run of games at a lower level to get that back.

But either way Joe hasn't been on any kind of form for the last two Championship seasons now so there's really no way he's going to do anything in the PL.

Even if it's a loan move it's right that the player has a fresh start and a run of games with another club as there's talent in there still.

Sad to admit, my 2.4Mhz and 5Mhz WLANs are named MUNICH1979 and MADRID1980.
Whereas your average Derby fan uses Accrington Stanley and Morecambe.

Can’t help but feel there’s more to this than just performances. Usually have to do something bad or not want to play for the club to get the bomb squad treatment.
Perhaps he’s declined offers of physical or mental help that the club wanted him to take?

Knew it was coming, not enough skills, earlier days unwisely in my opinion got himself into a bit of hot water with politics on social media, although he had a right too, conversely, fans have rights too!
He did well for us for a while but injury prone and became a bit of one trick pony with his cutting inside on to his left foot, got sussed out by most opposition.

Very harsh, always been a top bloke and was the star of the show in the successful runs under both Karanka & Lamouchi, with hindsight we should have cashed in when Villa came sniffing although there would have been uproar on here at the time.

Can't Play Left-Back
We must be pretty confident of bringing in other players to do this now. I know Lolley's not the Lolley of old, but currently we're very thin on attacking midfielders/wingers. Telling him he's not in the first team plans is one thing, bomb squadding him is another. From the outside seems harsh. But like others have said, maybe something else has happened. Real shame though, for about 18 months he was awesome for us. If he gets another Championship club, hope he rediscovers his form.

Where the hell is Arter in all this? Is he with the U21s or just been allowed to sit on his arse and watch the tour de france?

I agree with a lot of what has been said but for me it still hurts.

One because we all Love Lolleh and him getting the odd 10 minute cameo this season would be fine in fact I've not forgotten that he also didn't make moves or kick up a fuss despite clear overtures from his beloved Villa to leave when he could have.

Two it seems like the Forest that showed that positivity and belief in the club and process and which blended exciting youth with experience and left me an emotional joyous wreck has by and large been ditched when we've got where we all wanted to be.

I'm not sure that training with the u23s is what Joe deserves but jeez have we even got enough players for us to tell him at this stage he won't be involved anyway?

Back to Huddersfield as part of the deal to bring in Toffolo/O'Brien
What's Joe ever done to you for you to wish that on him?

From what i saw last season he wasn't good enough for the Championship in a decent Forest team.. I'd have been very surprised if he hadn't been given his marching orders..

Why can't he train with the first team even if he has been told to find a new club? He's never came across as anything but a professional and they took him to Spain? Seems cruel to me. Can't be good for team spirit.
Tbf there may have been conversations behind closed doors which we don't know about (or there may not have).

I mentioned earlier that at one point last season SC basically said JL was fit. But he still wasn't making an impact. Do we know why? There may well have been conversations. There might also have been conversations about his SM presence in the past or other matters we don't know about. He could have personal or MH issues and for some reason isn't settled here and that's why he's not performing. It may have been discussed and the club and player feel it's best for him to move on.

As it stands we don't really know anything so suggesting there's a long history of issues, or that he's the consummate pro unlucky with injuries, or anything else in the middle, really we can't tell and unless the manager or player says more about what if anything has happened then all we can go on is the performances on the pitch. And even they aren't - as with a few of them - good enough for the level we are at now.

Joe didn't last too long in the PL when he was part of the promoted Huddersfield side, therefore it's hardly surprising that this decision has been made after two seasons blighted by injury and/or indifferent form.

He'll certainly leave with fond memories of his contributions over those first few seasons. He's also a decent bloke, unafraid to publicly air his socially-aware, left-leaning political opinions - highly unusual amongst the overwhelming majority of his peers.

Another very ruthless action by the club, I hope Joe finds a decent championship side and rediscover abit of the form he had a few years back.

he won’t, he’s the most found out player in the football league.

great guy tho, always tried his best for us but unfortunately that meant cutting to his left and hitting the ball nowhere near goal.

I’m not sure I agree with dumping him with the under 23’s.

I do agree he needs to leave and find a new club to hopefully regain some form.
Surely at the moment the first team squad needs him to make up the numbers in training if nothing else.

One thing it does say is that there are quite a few signings left to come in. With 9 subs in the Premier League Lolley would've maybe fancied his chances of getting on the bench and as things stand would do so easily so to make a call like this suggests considerable incoming are on their way...

Because training with the first team is reserved for players who will have, or are thought as future candidates for having, playing time in the Premier. Lolley was judged, quite correctly, to belong to neither category. His staying with the first team would be detrimental to the training of the first team.
