The Joe Lolley Retirement

I didn't think he'd be a part of things with our move up. He simply isn't good enough. Seems like a good guy and all of that, but sentimentality isn't a prudent stance.

Of I know one thing about Forest, and Steve Cooper it's that they have a heart. Loyalty is one thing, honesty is worth far more when you consider Joe could get another club in championship with an excellent reputation. The difference between Norwich and Forest, Forest are making those big changes prior to the prem season. Imagine saying Joe we're dropping you..in January.

I'm thankful for the two seasons that Lolley flourished, under Karanka and Lamouchi. He was often a match winner and had a moment of magic in him which sent me back home happen quite a few times.

That said, this is absolutely the right decision by the football club. To be frank, he's contributed very little over the past two seasons. As many of us did, he complained about Hughton's negative tactics and he struggled to get anywhere near his best under them. But then you have Steve Cooper who plays the kind of football that old Lolley would have loved and he looked so far off it.

In 20/21, he played 28 times, scored once and got two assists. In 21/22, he played 27 times, didn't score and got one assist. He had not scored a goal for us since August 2020. I think he's finished at a good level to be honest. He could probably do a job in League 1 or 2 for someone but he looked out of place in the Championship.

As for the U23s treatment, the club is just being transparent about how they view his role at the club. He has a year left, Forest don't want a fee for him, they just want him off the books. Lolley could stay put and do the bare minimum or he could find himself a club, so the choice is really his. We're short in attack still and we're saying that he can go, so what does that tell you?

Anyways, hope he lands on his feet somewhere. My favourite Lolley moment will be when he picked Harrison's pocket against Leeds and squared it for Walker to make it 2-0. I held onto that feeling for a year until we could go watch Forest again.

My favourite Lolley moment was when he was on fire against his boyhood club, who he'd supported his whole life, and still celebrated like he was a Forest fan.

He set up 4 goals and scored a cracker from long range in that incredible 5-5 game.

Afterwards, Villa were talking about signing him for £15m or so. Lolley stayed loyal to Forest. It's been a pleasure but unfortunately football moves on. Having said that, I won't forget his continuous contribution, work ethic and professionalism.

Agree with above post. It Mit sound harsh but we need to create the bond they had last year, that seemed instrumental in promotion and need a tight squad to achieve it. I loved lolly-him and cash were immense, but things evolve and we have progressed.

If you're a footballer you've got to be a pragmatist as well, if you're not producing then you're always gonna know you're likely to get moved on. Joe's an intelligent guy and must be as aware of his issues with injuries and reduced performance levels as anyone. Being a part of the club for the past 3-4 tumultuous years or so, being held in the highest regard in general by the fans and ultimately leaving after playing a part, however small in a season that's seen us promoted to the PL, its not a bad way to say goodbye.

So thanks Joe and best of luck.

When he was hot he was one of the best in the league; came late to it as well and proved the udders wrong.

Also one of my favourites off the pitch too as he was honest as the day is long, a smart guy and not afraid to criticize himself openly and also dish some wit out if some west brom/brum fan piped up.

If/when he goes, he does so with my best wishes. Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up in management.

it’s insane how this isn’t a joke, he legitimately never went past a player like he used too. Both saddened and angered me.
He went all Djamel Abdoun on us

Mixed feelings on this.

I hope he was let down respectfully and I find it hard to believe he wasn’t. He’s been a great servant to us.

Personally I’d have kept him. Not out of sentimentality but because I do think he could have troubled teams from the bench and as things currently stand he’d make the squad.

I also think there’s a value in continuity. It’s fantastic to be upgrading players but we also need a core from last season to help the squad knit together.

Abdoun was f***ing shite.

Mastered the art of travelling without moving, bottled a challenge 10 minutes into his debut, got a stupid red card in another… oh but managed a cross against Burnley and did a panenka against a youth team.

f*** Abdoun. Just below the likes of Dadi and Diakhaby in terms of worst players I’ve ever seen.

Happy we’ve got to see a player peak (in a good way) wearing the Garibaldi. Prime Forest Joe Lolley was explosive, exciting and he goes down as an excellent signing overall

The club moving on from the likes of Lolley, Grabban and Samba says to me there’s lots more to come this window, which is exciting in itself. We might need the whole window to get to the desired levels to enable us to compete at this level but the club clearly has a plan and are sticking to it
