100%. I was just going to comment that y'all sure hate your own with an intensity I don't quite get. If any Canadian team wins anything anywhere we are , more or less, happy for them.
Bloody hell Canadians must be lovely nothing like that here there are a select few other teams I don't rhe rest of them can get to f*** I don't want them to win anything ever not even a corner 🤣🤣

Just another confirmation that money can buy you most things in life.

Who's next, Newcastle?

City have obviously spent a lot but how does their spending compare since Pep took over to Man Utd, Liverpool or Chelsea? I'd be interested to know.

Grealish aside where they paid English tax none of their players were above the £60m mark which is pretty standard amongst the top clubs nowadays. It's not just about the money, it's what you do with it and City have moulded a team that's probably the best we've ever had in this country.

Of course you have to be intelligent about it, just throwing it around doesn't work and there are plenty of examples of it not working.

But without an obscene amount of it, City would not be anywhere near winning this competition.

Back I the real world... the completion wasn't watered down so much as opened up to ensure that European 'Powerhouses' were ensured entry every year so one of them can win it.

And sure enough, that's what happened.

That makes it a harder competition to win.

That's why since the UCL format in 92 started not one.club outside of thiseclubs have won it.

Forest, Steanua, Villa, Porto won it it when it was easier.

It might have been a purer competition back then simply because the domestic leagues were purer then. The Forest fairytale was possible le then.

But the idea of it being easier today is laughable parade of delusions created by self agrandising Forest fans wearing the most garibaldi tinted glasses possible.

Easier to get into and onto the money train. Harder to win.

Have Barcelona, PSG, Real, Juventus, Inter, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool not spent lots of money then? That's the competition.

Man Utd's treble winning side had Schmeichel, Stam, Cole, Yorke, Sheringham etc. Were they all free? Were all Forest's players free? No FFP around then and no comparisons to other clubs and picking everything apart.

Nobody has done it without spending a bit or buying players to build a team.

Dint say it wa easier, just easier to enter. There's fantastic teams in it now, so maybe harder to win.
It's all about money at the end of the day.
Defo 'Purer', perhaps should have used that. It was a better world then no brainwashing, style over substance etc.
I wont bow down to it, right to the crematorium.
You don't come across as a passionate Forest supporter it has to be said. Sorry for you if you're not..... its great being mad about Forest.

City have the 3rd richest owners in the world, if it didn't work this year, they would have ratcheted it up another notch until it worked.

I agree it probably is a harder competition to win now. However, the league format has removed a lot of the jeopardy for the bigger clubs, so it allows them to cock up a couple of games and still qualify for the latter rounds. The 3rd place teams going into the Uefa/Europa is a nonsense that has devalued that competition even further.

I also think, and I'm not accusing you of the by the way, is that snooty attitude to the teams we beat to win the European Cups by younger fans/jealous cockneys. "Ha! You only beat Grasshoppers of Zurich in the Quarter Finals" despite the fact they'd beat Real Madrid the previous round. We had to beat the double champions of Europe in the first round. Football is supposed to be cyclical, and the current format has virtually killed any chance of a smaller team being crowned Chamipons of Europe unless a multi-billionaire bankrolls them. FFP is largely there not to ensure the security of clubs, but make sure there are no more Chelseas, PSGs and Man Citys destabilising the established order, because that is the only way you can compete with them. Seeing West Ham lift that trophy the other night made me realise how much I'd love Forest to compete in and win it. It's a pale imitation of the real thing, but the top competition is such a closed shop now, that I'd take it.

Forest's first game in the EC was v Liverpool who were holders (x2)

Nowadays the English champions (& the winners of the 4th place cup) go into a piss easy group stage & are kept apart from teams from the same nation in the early knockout stages, it's a piece of piss until the Qtr finals

It's a boring tournament until the QF stage & they've even f**ked that up by removing the away goals rule

Why is since Pep took over the benchmark, he inherited a massively talented squad that was assembled during City's period of breaching FFP, Pep therefore had the basis to top it up & improve it

Without breaching FFP that squad wouldn't have been there

If this puritanical look that competitions only counted when we won it and somehow it’s a lesser trophy now and it will never be the same again, what is the point in following Forest any more? What is the point in us being excited to be in the Premier league? What is the point in us existing. If those brilliant years are the only times that mattered and can never be repeated and if they did it doesn’t count?

I agree with all of this.

The domestic leagues all had more variety in winners, but even by the time Forest did it, it was becoming a closed shop.

That was true in all leagues across Europe. And the lock-in of the powerhouse clubs was ultimately leading to the prevention of diversity at the top except for thenl divers8ty of the top.

It's true of the FA Cup and even the League Cup.

As time goes on, those competitions become harder, because the Powerhouses hoard the best players amd for everyone else just standing still takes all the effort/resources you can muster.

Let's be right here, the powers that be be it UEFA, FIFA, the FA ect have f**ked up and ruined prestigious tournaments such as the European Cup, the World Cup & the FA Cup all because of their greed

Now this I do agree with. Apart from England (and if they ever qualified for a European competition, Forest), I don't really pay much attention to these competitions anymore until at least the knockout/QF stage. The group stages are boring as f***.

It's just a shame it's almost impossible for anybody other than the usual teams to get to the latter stages due to not having two sets of international level players to call upon later into the season.

It always has though so I don’t get the ire. Football teams gain advantage by buying players. United have spent I think 150 mill less than city in 10 years. I am loving the new money come into the league and holding a mirror up to liverpool United and arsenal.
