Not looking for an argument Calvin but yes I do think the SPL is lower standard than the Championship, a couple of defeats to average European opposition every year doesn't mitigate the 85% of games against absolute tripe. You think Rangers fighting for the SPL title and playing in Europe is a lower standard than a side that generally battles relegation in the championship? Ho hum.
So to be clear you'd have refused to take any of those players on loan and where exactly do you think we'd be right now?

And no I wouldn't have refused to take the loan signings we had-it was needs must and it worked out well. But overall it is a nuanaced question with a bunch of different angles to it that's all...
With Surridge and Grabban as bench options, do you need Davis if you get Awoniyi? Isn't it an overkill?Think we only go for Davis if Villa lower their price a substantial amount. Awoniyi seems like he'll be the starting striker and plays somewhat similarly to Davis. And £15m is too much for a potential substitute striker.
I doubt Grabban (if he stays) will get much game time at all. I think Davis offers something different to Surridge and Grabban, and is more likely to make an impact from the bench. With Surridge and Grabban as bench options, do you need Davis if you get Awoniyi? Isn't it an overkill?

Johnson aside, I'd say we need 4 out and out Striker options, Taylor will leave. I think Grabbs will sign on for another season. leaves one space for Davis or another. With Surridge and Grabban as bench options, do you need Davis if you get Awoniyi? Isn't it an overkill?
And with 5 subs from a possible 9 on the bench you need plenty of options, preferably with a nice variety in there.Johnson aside, I'd say we need 4 out and out Striker options, Taylor will leave. I think Grabbs will sign on for another season. leaves one space for Davis or another.
Not just as a club but as a league. The PL is the place to be across Europe now, unless you are playing for one of the clubs that are going for the title every year - then the PL is the place to showcase your talent.I wouldn't underestimate what those two stars can do to help woo a player, now that we are back up. If we can snag this striker and the centre back Diakhite, those would be two excellent additions, and neither is a huge fee (relative to what others of comparable ability would cost). The only potential downside is going to be developing the chemistry. These things do take time.
A defender's nightmare, isn't it?Must say I'd shit myself if I was a defender and I saw Awoniyi and Davis up front
So... have we actually completed the deal then?
Sorry, I must have missed it. Have they made the 10am statement now?
It's arguable we're in the top 30 or so clubs in the world to be at nowNot just as a club but as a league. The PL is the place to be across Europe now, unless you are playing for one of the clubs that are going for the title every year - then the PL is the place to showcase your talent.
We shouldn't have self esteem issues, we are a huge pull for clubs now. The club seem to know this and are capitalising on it. To get two very good Bundesliga players for around £25m and both at a perfect age, you would be doubling that at the very least from players in the Prem. Now we can take advantage of the world wide market we can compete with anybody in.
Shrewd signings so far, whether they are any good will remain to be seen - various factors can make a signing bad. But on paper we are doing all the right things and seem to be spending money smartly.
I think we need 4 strikers. With Surridge and Grabban as bench options, do you need Davis if you get Awoniyi? Isn't it an overkill?
Davis is a no brainier if the price is under £8m. His all round game is fantastic and will translate to any level.OK, you convinced me, 4 strikers it should be. Even so, Davis (who will not be cheap) still feels like an overkill.
If Davis is such a well rounded striker, in a game where strikers are thin on the ground, how come Villa are not utilising his talents?Davis is a no brainier if the price is under £8m. His all round game is fantastic and will translate to any level.
We are gonna be bringing 2 strikers off the bench in most games, we need players that can change games - and you are also future proofing for upcoming seasons.
If the worst happens and we go down, we keep the same squad and they will have enough firepower to bring us straight back.
Because Villa have immediate ambitions to become a top 6 club. They can't wait around forever and Davis needs to leave to progress his career. If Davis is such a well rounded striker, in a game where strikers are thin on the ground, how come Villa are not utilising his talents?
I appreciate Cooper has a great talent for getting the best from the players under his wing, but is there not something missing from Davis's game that cannot be put in by good coaching?
I like Davis, but I do wonder if h has the stamina, ability and natural talent to make Premiership defenders quake in their boots like he did Championship defenders (in a championship that last season was one of the weakest for a while).
