Because Villa have immediate ambitions to become a top 6 club. They can't wait around forever and Davis needs to leave to progress his career.

He played 70+ games without hardly scoring at all for them. That shows they believed he had the talent, they just didn't have the patience or ability to get it out of him like Cooper can.
Some players just fit certain clubs better than others. Davis is a good fit here.

If Davis is such a well rounded striker, in a game where strikers are thin on the ground, how come Villa are not utilising his talents?
I appreciate Cooper has a great talent for getting the best from the players under his wing, but is there not something missing from Davis's game that cannot be put in by good coaching?
I like Davis, but I do wonder if h has the stamina, ability and natural talent to make Premiership defenders quake in their boots like he did Championship defenders (in a championship that last season was one of the weakest for a while).
It's a concern I have with the lad. Like him, like him a lot but there is a reason the more 'traditional' forwards don't thrive in the EPL. You only have to look at the scoring charts over the past 10 seasons to see this.

Modern defenders get a lot of criticism but the art of defending has improved wholesale and to the point where forwards need a whole range of qualities to succeed, and/or lightening pace and stamina. Look at Lukaku. Banging them in left, right and centre in Serie A but EPL defences soon had the measure of him, again.

Agreed that £15 million for Davis (who can't get anywhere near the AV first team) is a piss take, especially if we are getting Awoniyi for £17 million. £5 million or £8 million would be more realistic.

Surely Taylor will go. I saw him at Gatwick the other day with his Montserrat team mates. The Premier League was mentioned and he didn't exactly look enthused.

My concern is that in the top flight you don't tend to get loads of chances, in the tougher games we might only get one chance and you have to take it. Davis' goal record suggests he isn't clinical to be the main man at the moment.

I would definitely have him off the bench though but not for more than £6/7m tops, no chance at 15m

Just thinking back I can’t remember Davies missing many chances. Perhaps more that on his surging runs he sometimes fails to select the correct option or perhaps he doesn’t read the game as well as a grabbon or Surridge so doesn’t quite have the strikers goal instinct. But he has many other attributes, his touch and hold up play and ability to run past players made him almost unplayable at time in championship. Remember first half away against Blackburn they couldn’t stop him!!

Yep he is a no brainer for me. The price will come down before the season starts, then we will pounce.

He's too expensive for Championship clubs & no other Prem teams will take a punt on him because of his goal record.

In terms of missing chances with him I think it's more that he doesn't naturally occupy the spaces to miss from - remember Grabban getting that feedback from one of his close range efforts (the near post spin and hit) as he'd been coaching Davies' movement across the defender.

Agree about the other attributes thing btw - I'd hope we can reach a realistic deal fir him, as he's fantastic at pulling defenders in, which is perfect for the likes of BJ. That said I suspect Awoniyi is our Davies upgrade....

Davis is a no brainier if the price is under £8m. His all round game is fantastic and will translate to any level.

We are gonna be bringing 2 strikers off the bench in most games, we need players that can change games - and you are also future proofing for upcoming seasons.

If the worst happens and we go down, we keep the same squad and they will have enough firepower to bring us straight back.
Also if one gets an injury (8-12 weeks) it isn’t a critical blow.

Hi everyone, a member of this group asked me to do a video on Taiwo Awoniyi and I wanted to share it on here for others who might be interested to hear what he’s all about. Despite competing against the likes of Lewandowski, Haaland, and Nkunku, this fella was still able to stand out and I firmly believe he’ll be a great fit for this Forest side. Happy to answer any questions you may have and am looking forward to seeing who else is brought in, cheers!

Never mind about football, with that neck and physique he needs to be on the plane to Australia with the England rugby team as a prop.
