How did he play against top German teams like Bayern Munich and Dortmund? His goal showreel is impressive but the defending was awful for the majority of his goals. I'm thinking the Prem and even the Championship is a bit more competitive than the German league.

Then you would be incorrect.

Eintracht Frankfurt managed to win the Europa League - knocking out Barcelona and West Ham on the way to the final - and they were 11th in the Bundesliga...

The high regard with which the Championship is thought of by some, borders on delusional. It's not that good, and it is definitely not among the best leagues. It just has too many games crammed in a season, therefore it's very demanding physically. That's all folks.

I think the fact you often get a lot of relatively big teams grouped together in it too. Which helps its profile.

The amount of times I've heard 'He's only been doing it in the Scottish leagues' and then the player has delivered in the top leagues in Europe....

I mean, thank goodness we never went with that train of thought when we purchased Scott McKenna.

John McGinn, Aaron Hickey, Tierney, Robertson. Wouldn't take any of them....😑

How can a club spend a shed load of time reseaching a player then 'discover ' his release clause?
More shite 'journalism '

Reading the athletic article on the Haaland deal, it sounds like they sometimes have confidential release clauses. Man City actually found out that what was circulated as Haalands release clause in the media was actually higher than reality. Dortmund gave Riola permission to tell City the clause.

You think the player would know that and a sneaky DM to Coops... 'add another monkey and its cushty fella'

Exactly. The agent knows so he'd obviously say if he has money to be made out of it. Otherwise,l the purchasing club could submit a hundred offers, raising it by a small amount each time any way.

I think a lot of that opinion is based on the record of players that your club has previously signed from whichever league. For example our fans probably had a pretty negative view of any rumoured transfers from the Scottish league after Cummings & McKay flopped, but in reality there are still quality players in pretty much every top league in Europe (Like McGinn who we missed out on) . Our recruitment has just been so poor over the years that there’s always going to be sceptics when it comes to any new signings especially ones we haven’t really heard of, for now at least.

It all comes down to scouting the gems and Cooper & his men are good at that.

One of our best ever players came from Scotland. John Robertson.

We've also had Kenny Burns, Archie Gemmill, Scott Gemmill.

You'd think for a club that is accused of thinking too much about the past, that we would in this respect.

Most of our international players over the years have come from the 'home nations'.

True to some extent but I think less so with regard to strikers. Its rare for there to be real gems buried in these leagues for years because once they start to look like a player and hit consistent goals someone will take a chance on them (unless they're a fruitcake like Cummings).
I still think the overall standard in Scottish football is dire. Thats not to say there isn't the odd gem there but its a bottom feeding system...

He’d get a game for the Barbarians, and they thumped England last weekend.

Supposedly flying to the UK for his medical today.

Do signings usually get announced the day of their medical?

It will depend on how the medical goes, but that sometimes happens.
