Been a brilliant window. Realistically how many more do you think we'll get now? Two, three max? Doesn't feel like anything is now particularly imminent, but I'm sure that's not the case. Roll on the new season, I can't wait.

In an ideal world another CM and attacking player but if the window shut today I don't think any of us could grumble.

We still have loan slots too.

What do you know, you filthy tease?

I'd be delighted with Jimmy G & I'd love Joël Piroe.

I'd shit the bed and not change the sheets for a week for both and be quite happy to go into the season with them in the squad we now have.
I'd love to see Jimmy Gordon run on to the pitch again.

So do people still think we have no pulling power as a club & can't compete with mid table Prem teams for players?
West Ham supporters probably, despite the fact that we've beaten them to two signings now (Niakhate and Lingard). "It's not fair! We are entitled to these players!" they cry, as the toys go flying from out of their prams.

We knew if we got promoted ('too early') we would need a major overhaul. However the fact that they have done so in such a well managed and daring way with a clear strategy (and spending the money needed to do so) is simply mind blowing.
I am soooooooo looking forward to the coming season! :) COYR!!

Yes - but didn’t we get the great Carlton Palmer mid season?
Plus Richard Gough who was like 38 or something at the time too.

Pretty convinced Big Ron just had a 5 yr old who's who in football and signed his mates again.

Though I think we also had Hugo Porfirio for most of that season too but didn't really play him until the end and we did win a few of those later games. Maybe if they had (been able to) use him more it might have been slightly different.

The stupidity was that even without the players who left that side was solid but just no real goal threat. If they'd focused on signing a decent striker rather than old shit and general detritus like shitperley then there might have been a chance. Which of course is what makes this season so much different. There's a plan and you can see exactly how the incomings fit the plan.

It's a difficult balance, bringing the quality in that we need to compete, whilst retaining the team spirit that got us here in the first place.

We've done excellent work so far, but I hope we don't overdo it and bring in a few extra players towards the deadline that we don't need.

Still need a defensive general in midfield. Mangala and/or vrancx would be nice.
I agree. I think this team is missing a really good CM. Don't get me wrong Yates and OBrien are decent but they won't win midfield battles in this league. We need another option, I think we will go big here - either in transfer fee or wages. It's a really critical position.

On the other hand, I wouldn't say when we can make 5 subs from 9, that a bit of squad depth doesn't really hurt. Your matchday squad is 20 including 2 keepers and that means you're not far off having a whole team on the bench anyway. When you get the inevitable injuries and suspensions we will be putting kids on there, well the ones we haven't loaned out anyway - which also means the likes of Harbottle, Back, Swan can't cover first team and nor will Mbe Soh or Mighten or anyone else if we loan them.

Weren't people questioning whether we "needed" Samba when he came in, and we already loaned Muric (who it was fairly obvious was shit) to replace Pantilimon and when Luke Steele and Jordan Smith were still at the club too. Yet he turned out to be one of our best if not the best keeper since relegation and his time ended with us getting promotion (of which he was a key part of).

If we can get any players in who will improve squad depth and fit the model then why shouldn't we?

Been a real rollercoaster for me this window. Can't believe I was promoting financial prudence and caution at the outset when in reality I actually love other people spending shed loads of money for my benefit. Also developing something of a gamblers outlook. Bit like George Best leaving a casino 'George, how much did you lose?' 'I lost it all but It was the best night of my life'

Agreed, but we need depth too - not every player will excel...we were also quite fortunate with (the timing of) injuries last season and may not be so lucky this time round. I would love to see a couple of midfielders, another attacking midfielder and a striker...I feel greedy but we need both cover and competition in midfield and upfront now.

I trust the club to bring in the right players but I think the general supporter expectation has just risen.

Going to see a lot of rubbish now on social media particularly saying we should sign players like Wijnaldum

Aaron Ramsey would definitely be going against the model.

A great player when he was fit but over-the-hill now. For someone who has had lots of difficult periods in his career, the last two seasons have not really been stand-out for him.
