Out of interest and 100% not intending to agitate, does anyone have any understanding how Forest are paying for the incoming players on the whole ?

is it money in the bank? Due to PL payment already received?
EM writing cheques? Then he‘ll recoup money when PL cough up?
based on future earnings? Borrowing as income is guaranteed?
spending worse case parachute payments? Again borrowing ?

or is it a mixture of all above ?

as I said I’m just interested and I’m 100% in the just enjoy the upcoming season and the 38 new experience camp.

my posts as anyone who stumbles across them can attest are light hearted ( or stupid 😂 see my Nixon BLOCKED) on the whole.

cheers.

No way the PL money has already been paid.

I guess it would be a combination of 2 and 3, with 3 being the main `tactic`.

I would like to stress the word "guess" though, 'cause that's what I'm doing. The above is just a guess, not even an educated one really.

All the TV money gets paid upfront in early June. It's in the broadcasters interests as it gives them something to talk about over the summer as clubs have cash ready to spend.

However deals will often be spread, let's just say all our deals are spread over 2 years (a short estimate) - so you cut our spending this season on the accounts by 1/2.

Following the 2 from Huddersfield coming in today, if he’s not expensive in fees/wages, I wouldn’t be against bringing in Jordan Rhodes as our 4th striker.
He definitely knows where the net is and would be a great coach to our other strikers.

Rhodes was terrible for Boro in the EPL and he was in his pomp then.

He must be close to retirement now and I couldn't see any team using one of their 25 places even if he played for free.

A bit like Grabban then

Jordan Rhodes bloody hell 😆. People do realise we are in the premier league? Rhodes was a bench option at huddersfield, is getting old and isn't a prolific goalscorer anymore. These are players I'd rather we avoid.
Spot on, Jordan Rhodes surely that has to be a joke.

Ok ladies and gents, probably not the perfect thread for this, but where do we think we need to recruit?

I'm presuming Ojeda and Laryea (sp.?!) Will head out on loan. Mighton might just stay ...

GK Henderson and Hennessy

RB/RWB Williams and Bianchome to cover

CB Wozza, McKenna, Niakhate, Bianchome, Cook.. (Mbe Sow to be loaned out?)

LB/LWB Richards, Toffolo, Colback

CM Yates, O'Brien, Colback,Cafu... This to me seems one short.

ACM/wide players Brennan, Mighton..
For me this looks the weakest part of the squad. Two quality additions needed...

CF Awoniyi, Surridge.
Surely we're short of one addition here.

Given the above, one CM and three attacking/CF positions need filling.

That's 19 players and Coops has mentioned a squad of about 20...23 would seem about right to me.

Garner, MGW, Cornet and Davies and I think I'd shit myself

I'd say your bang on the money there, assuming Toffolo and O'Brien sign.

I'm not confident we'll get Garner or MGW however, but hopefully we have decent fall back options in case we don't get them. Really hope we go back in for Cornet and can work something out with Villa for Keinan.

Garner, MGW, Cornet and Davis
That's probably 15-20m for Garner, 5-10 for Davis, 15-20m for Cornet and 25-30 for MGW. So that would take our spending to £120m at least, at most £140m. Not to mention all the wages.

I cannot see MGW signing now, with O'Brien coming in, Wolves looking like they won't sell unless they get a stupid offer and other teams who can pay more sniffing.

I'm half expecting Mighten to surprise a lot of people this year. He's got talenet, and it'll happen at some point, and there's a reason why Cooper is keeping him around.

It's just whether it's happens this year or over the next couple.

You'd think that Zincs, Lolley and Grabban will need replacing... O'Brien could be used as a replacement for Garner... Of my original post, assuming Toffolo and O'Brien sign, I'd be happy enough with three attacking signings

O’Brien is surely not being brought in for the attacking midfield role, but the Garner role

Plus he's always done fine against PL opposition (in cup games, sure, but when you are expected to make most of your appearances as a sub against opponents with tired legs, point still stands.)

Alf, we agree way too often and it's creeping me out.

Yeah, I think MGW has gone quiet for a reason. I'm sure Coops will be working on a replacement

If you only have 5 cbs you need 2 RWBs at least. If we had 6 cbs we could get away with Biancone at RWB cover.

Golden rule is 2 for every position we were lucky last season that Yates or Garner didnt have a longish term injury with Colback playing LWB nearly all season.

A squad of 23 for me is what we need 3 GK's and 2 for every position. However as said before you can use youth and who we consider backups as part of that but they have to be specialised in that position for example I wouldnt count Cafu as a backup AMC.

I am trying to avoid getting anxious about the transfers in situation, but whether it is the heat of yesterday and today, I am beginning to get those bottom-clenching feelings!
Replaacing all those departig loan players, exacerbated by Samba and Horvath both departing, and Grabban and Lolley going too, was always a massive task, involving target player, player's agent, player's current club, and our owner. With multi-millions at stake with each negotiation, it is an unimaginable pressure for Coops and Murphy to have to cope with, specially for Coops who has to get the squad bonding and playing as an integrated unit.

Yeah, I agree with everything you've said there. We just don't have the resources to have that just yet.. Players will have to flexible and adapt to different positions as cover - see Jack Colback last season (this certainly has its benefits when the back up is Bong!).

Ideally we'll need quality in all 11 starting positions and 5/6 flexible replacements the other 5/6 are where youth or 'championship' players like Cafu will come in

At the very least, Capt'n, the club will have to replace Garner, Zinc, Lolley and Grabban. None of which they have.

It would be very tempting to say, 'why didn't we wait with Lolley, try harder with Grabs and put an offer in for Zincs' but that's merely pointing out that, at this moment, having them is better than nothing. I'll reserve such stupidity to when the window closes and we're still in the same position.

My guess is, the club are working hard to address this. Finding players who want to come, are in our price range and not going to be usurped by a rival with deeper pockets is much harder than it seems. I doubt Steve Cooper has been in a position where he needs so many signings either. Add into that mix, the role of agents who are increasingly having greater influence over an increasing number of players and you can probably emphasise with Cooper.

It looks like Toffolo has the same agent as Williams. Coming from Liverpool and 'Udders, resp. And likely to be seen in different levels of first team involvement from the club they were undoubtedly offered very different terms. Weeks of leg work undone by one meddling agent telling Toffolo we're paying Williams much more..

Two/three weeks to go. There'll be plenty of movement, especially nearer the end as players who have been playing the field will start to panic and 'settle' - it's kinda how I find my girlfriends!!

Have faith!
