I reckon one of the European targets (i.e. Vranckx, Mangala) are more likely than Tavernier, given what Percy said.

But I'd be happy with LOB, another midfielder and MGW (or a suitable alternative) too. Davis is such a good fit here, and a late deal for Garner would be the icing on the cake.
Sounds about right to be honest.

I'll feel much more comfortable when we get those 2 more midfielders through the door.

Same, midfield is definitely weak at the moment, but I'm confident we'll have it sorted before the start of the season.

One thing people ignore are the improvements we have already made to the workings of the club. Sure, you can quote anecdotes about the poor service you received when buying a burger, or a ticket, or the poor way we have carried out our transfer business so far. One message to some of you .........
Get real and calm down. The club has had to hit the ground running in all sorts of ways.
I guess we are still category 1 for our academy. A procession of good and valuable players produced.
We have ambitious plans for our stadium, although I feel the planned capacity should be increased still further.

Once we achieved promotion, our acquisition groups went into overdrive and we have almost finished rebuilding our squad. We know that our spending is not yet complete. so.........

Why the lack of optimism? In my minds eye, I can envisage a number of posters sharpening their knives. Don't do it guys.
Every day, we are linked with more players and surprise surprise, we keep seeming to buy them. We're not messing about!
We also started our real planning in June trying to get players! Fulham and Bournemouth started in May, Prem Clubs started mid may. Due to the playoffs we had a very late start, we may have had 2 lists of targets (1 Prem 1 championship) but you can't realistically start negotiating until you know where you are!

We made 5 years progress in 6 months

We are always gonna be playing catch-up after last seasons miracle.

The twin deal for O'Brien / Toff certainly fills some outright needs in the roster. And the price may open the funds to look at that next level up for quality midfielders to finish off the transfer period. Eg - £40m for O'Brien/Toff/MGW doesn't seem outrageous, even though the £30m for MGW seems a bit over the top in isolation. We need to assemble a squad to avoid relegation, spending some money (without the stupidity of chasing a 50 million quid "star") will be repaid by a 2nd year in the Prem. EM will have no intention as owner of bouncing up and down from the Championship. The strategy seems well balanced and considered. Europe for value, try to pick the eyes out of the best Championship options. I suspect we'll throw bigger coin at one more player. Whether that's Garner, or MGW , or someone else remains to be seen . But it all feels planned, step by step . Build from the back, some mid depth, some quality in the front three to finish.

I genuinely believe some fans would prefer our old 'hit and hope' approach of signing 20 players and hoping at least a few of them weren't shit. We actually have structure now and an entire team of talented people behind us working to identify players based on very specific criteria

Yes it means things move slower, but the players we're getting are all being bought in with a purpose, as part of a bigger picture that isn't purely short term. Fortunately we are no longer slinging expensive shit at the wall in the hopes that a little bit sticks

Forest have shown interest in 6.4” Oliver Abildgaard Nielsen, who wants out of Rubin Kazan. 26 year old defensive midfielder. From the main man in ITK, Fab Romano

Is this a joke I’m missing? I can’t see anything from Fab on this guy.

I think the side they finished the season, including the loans obviously, was just about ‘staying up’ calibre, or maybe slightly short

If we get Tof and O’Brien the likely situation is:

- First choice and second choice goalkeepers are both upgrades
- central defence has more quality and depth
- RWB Williams is similar to last season Spence
- LWB Tof or Richards is better than Colback or Lowe
- Midfield options of Colback, Yates, O’Brien similar to Yates, Garner, Zinc
- attack of Johnson and Awiniyi an improvement on Johnson and Davies. Surridge still there.

So If the Huddersfield lads sign we’re probably a bit stronger than last season.

We obviously need more quality and numbers in midfield and attack, and ideally more continuity. Something like Garner, Davies, a Zinc loan and MGW would be great.

I've got something to say and I guess here is as good a place for it as anywhere.

Just a few weeks ago Nottingham Forest achieved something that many of us thought was beyond us. Certainly back in September when we were staring a relegation scrap in the face it was a madman's fantasy.

They got promoted! The first time ever that a team got promoted having had 1 point after 7 games! A remarkable achievement, something we have all dreamt of happening!

We should all be enjoying the summer. Revelling in a new adventure. Looking forward to the challenge and seeing how Forest rise to it.

The vast majority of us are not stupid. We know the squad isn't strong enough as it was, oddly enough we know the the Premier League is a massive step. We know the odds are against us staying up. We know we needed a lot of new, quality players.

The last few weeks has seen a tenfold increase in the number of people who want only to bring us bad news, or to dwell on the negative, or to tell us we are not strong enough, we need more players and that we are in for a shock when we realise just how tough the Premier League is. Throw in those who delight in predicting bad news, often as a wind up and they have all helped to do their best to try to ruin what should have been the best summer in over 25 years.

I have a message for all of them - f*** off.

We know the challenges, we know it's difficult, we know it's a mad dash to get everything ready. We do not need insufferable pricks telling us we haven't got enough signings, that those we have got are not good enough or injured because we want to try to look forwards with some degree of positivity, so take that negativity and f*** off on holiday for a month.

And most of all, we do not need 'Told you so' posts from anyone. I hope if we do get them the moderation team bans that poster for the entire season.

We should be united. But we have some utter cockwombles determined to undermine that unity. It's utterly pathetic.

The way I see it is:

We were looking at Onana, but we can't compete with West Ham, so we moved onto Vranckx, but again we face competition. I think we're potentially looking at Abildgaard in case Vranckx is unattainable and all three would be been seen as challenging with Yates.

Similarly, O'Brien is seen as a replacement for Garner and Mangala as competition for him in the likely event that Garner remains with MU or is loaned elsewhere in the Prem. I don't think we'd sign both Mangala and Garner if, as expected, O'Brien signs.

Tavernier might be seen as cover for BJ or cover for MGW/ a fallback option if MGW isn't possible. He might also provide an option on the left of the front 3 as he can play across LW/AM/RW. I don't think he's being considered for central midfield.

Ideally, I'd like it if we got O'Brien plus Garner/Mangala and Vranckx for CM. I don't think Onana is likely (but would be brilliant).

Plus MGW with Tavernier as cover across attacking midfield. And Keinan would be the icing on the cake.

That's just my tuppence.

The only thing you've missed is another striker, or red hot inside forward who can play striker (and that's not MGW). We are desperately light up front, say Awoniyi takes time to settle (which could happen even if hes top quality, its a different league...) that leaves us with Surridge and although everyone says "hes a natural finisher" its a heck of an ask for him to carry the line in the prem. So there has to be another player signed and a damn good one at that....

One thing I'm fairly sure about and that's we will be relegated if we don't score enough goals. If we bag plenty and our (expensive and on the surface of it decent) defence can't keep teams out such that we go down that's one thing but I'd hate for us to be relegated with the lowest goals for in the league....

Agree. We need to find 35-40 points, and we won't do it with draws alone. I personally think Davis will be a late signing, but even then it's not necessarily a big outright jump in goalscoring potential. Can Brennan/ Taiwo/Surridge/Davis win us enough games? It'll need goals from the midfield too. And I'm not sure Neco will give us the goal threat that Spence could pose either.

Going to be an interesting next fortnight. Any outright strikers available for loan, lol ?

I don't think B/T/S (plus Davies if he signs) is enough for the goals we need-or at least its a big gamble that Taiwo hits the ground running and he and Brennan gel very quickly. I'd like to see a player with a goal scoring record in English football coming in even if hes over the magic 28 years....

Think any player with a proven goal scoring record in the Premier League is going to cost well over £40m.

Most likely. It's something even many established Premier League clubs struggle with. It's very rare you see proven Premier League goalscorers go to anyone outside of the top six. Looking outside of the Premier League for a goalscorer isn't something exclusive to Forest or newly promoted clubs.

What's a proven goal scoring record?

Teemu Pukki was suggested earlier. Both seasons he's played in the Premier League he's scored 11 goals. Could be a shrewd buy at less than £40m.

I'd be interested in Pukki to be honest. I know he's 32 so doesn't fit our usual M.O but he certainly knows where the net is, 22 goals over his 2 seasons in the Premier League in a really poor side is excellent really. Be worth a 2 year contract IMO.

I don't think anyone does but that's a different question. Heaven forbid something happen to Brennan or Taiwo as the squad stands. I'm confident we'll add at least two attacking threats between now and end of the window (preferably before Newcastle but I think that's optimistic), but we may need to find value in other leagues.
