After seeing us v NUFC, what will it have done to our ability to attract a 330m striker, or a big midfielder?
Will players of that calibre be more or less likely to join forest, with the bookies piling on the odds about us being relegated?
To have performed so ineptly as we did yesterday (and it was inept - our players can and have done much better than that in the past), I think some of our targets may well be instructing their agents not to get them a contract with Forest.
All te odds are stacking up against us.
But out of adversity the great will come forth.

Looking around at the Premier League teams that played over the weekend, it seems clear that we might spend £100 mill on players now, but we still will be behind most teams put out because most have paid nearly that much every year for donkey's years. The teams they put out discounting new players are light years ahead of us.

Don't say that! I got ragged mercilessly for suggesting it might take him time to make the step up.
Suspect we got Toffolo on a BOGOF. Hes certainly a good option for the Championship (if we go back down) and probably offers cover for the LCB position as well as FB or a "defensive" WB but he looked out of his depth against Valencia and did nothing against Newcastle to suggest otherwise. My Lincoln city supporting brother remembers him well and although he said he was a very solid player at L1 level who looked like he was destined to step up he expressed genuine surprise that he might be considered a prem player.

There are obviously a lot of factors in all these decisions. We often reference "not proven as a premier league player" , or "for that money you have to get a proven player" . Yet someone like Dennis - 10 EPL goals and plenty of assists in a bottom side in an EPL season that was only two months ago , surely definitively "proven"? - remains at Watford.

There's a balance between proven, potential and dollar figure that each club is obviously weighing up in their own scales.

If you know FFP sanctions are likely, you probably want to do a bit of last minute business?

For us, the transfer strategy has to be premier league standard on the pitch and on the bench. But you probably need to have a couple more than that because of form, injuries, etc.

This makes it a challenging proposition because coming the transfer window we really had only 6 players that make the mark.

That immediately necessitates a minimum14 incoming players just to complete the team and the bench.

That task is ongoing. We've done 12 so far, but one is injured.

At a minimum we need 3 more. But it feels like 5 or 6 could be required.

As we saw on Satdy, a make shift 11 doesn't cut it in the EPL.

Agree with all that. I think Saturday showed that we are a bit further away than we might've previously thought.

I thought we needed one more midfielder to go along with Yates, O'Brien and Mangala. But after Saturday and the probable need to go with a three man midfield away from home I reckon we might need another two. As much as I respect Colback, he shouldn't be starting games for us in midfield in the Premier League.

Moreno looks to be coming in to take over as first choice left back in Richards' absence.

We need at least one creative player, whether that be MGW or someone else.

And then there is the obvious need for another striker who can do the job that Davis did for us last season (perhaps even bringing back Davis himself).

Taking all of the above into account, I'd say 5 or 6 more being required is probably about right. That'll take us to a total of 17 to 18 new signings for the summer; shows what an enormous task Murphy and Cooper had on their hands this summer.

You would hope that should we be successful in staying up next summer our team would be settled and may only need 2/3 signings to once again improve.

This summer was always gonna be difficult due to last years loans but it’s a hell of a lot easier when we have the premier league money to spend than if we was in the Championship still.

Yes, this summer is a one off in terms of the rebuild required. We are almost building a squad from scratch.

Whatever league we are in next season, we won't require anywhere near as much work in the transfer market next summer.

If god forbid we go down I could see a good chunk of this summers signings staying here too which would help.

I really do think that if we stay up we will be here for the foreseeable future with EM’s backing.

Absolutely. This year is going to be a huge struggle as we increase the quality of the squad on the fly whilst also trying to mesh as a team. If we can stay up then we are looking at adding a couple of players each year and we know the backing will be there to do so.

The good news is that the cash is there and we seem to have no qualms about spending it.

Even if we do go down, we have a MUCH stronger squad and any players who perform well enough to expect to move and stay in the PL will have likely increased their value from what we have paid.

Reality is we have progressed so quickly as a club in the last 6 months that it's left us underprepared

I think we can all accept that - and I think it's why almost every Forest fan defends the amount of players we are signing. For me it would be a sin to finally go up and not go for it.

But we seem to have a plan if it's doesn't go to plan which has always been a likely scenario. If we go down we will be fully geared to come back up & will be more prepared going forward. This 6 months will shape the club for years to come.

Yes. Whatever league we're in, we'll just need 2 or 3.

That will help with FFP under wither set of regulations.

100% I think people forget that 9/10 months ago we looked nailed on relegation to League One and we (not unfairly) considered the majority of the squad were not good enough for the Champ.

We rode a wave last year and basically had a free hit at both the league but Prem teams in the cup and that's raised expectations and put us waaaayyy ahead of schedule.

There is a tonne of work to do on and off the pitch. Staying up on goal difference would be an outstanding season.

You can see why DM has asked for some help to be bought in with regards to the clubs non footballing responsibilities, he must be spending every waking hour chasing up clubs/agents/players

Could also explain why some things have been neglected i.e sponsorships

Yes, Charnley may have been rubbish when asked to do stuff on the football side of things at Newcastle, but he is highly experienced at the off the pitch stuff and will be working on that whilst Murphy focuses on providing Cooper with the resources that he needs.
