I don't rate Montiel and hope we don't sign him permanently, whatever league we are in next season and regardless of what fee we get for Serge.
He's not without his faults, though Nuno is either taking a long look or likes him.

My hope is that Williams eventually makes that role his own - there's been some positive signs that could happen with his progress this season I think.

He was top class last season but has looked poor in a Forest shirt so far this season.

I’m not arsed if he goes, Williams has been improving every game he plays as well. We have bigger issues than which of our 20 full backs should be playing anyway.

I genuinely think Neco's defending has improved this season. Still capable of switching off as we saw the other night, but he's becoming quite hard to beat one on one.
I think so too - with him it was all about positioning, so if we can get that coached into him I think we have a very good modern full back.

Technically he's good, looks after the ball well, can pass/cross, beat a man and has good energy. Only question mark is his ability to defend as a straight full back.

Five year deal was it?

Neco has come on strong this season but I still don't think he is ready to make RB his own just yet.
I too would prefer Serge to Montiel, I think we lack leaders on the pitch at times and Serge certainly brings that.

Aina and Williams should be long term RB options.

Montiel can see out this season whilst Aina covers for Toffolo.

Can't believe we didn't cancel the Nuno loan.

I expect that decision was left to the manager, which is exactly how it should be if he rates him and it's a season-long loan.

It would be something to genuinely complain about if the hierarchy undermined Nuno by cancelling Tavares's loan. As fans, we can't have it both ways.

Think the most surprising thing I've read today is that we would only let him go if we could bring someone in at right back - we've four right backs!

Explains the Soppy link anyway. Crazy.

For some reason NES seems to like him.
I am not sure what he brings except pace and strength. Although that can hide other weaknesses

Maybe he sees Tavares' weaknesses as mental weaknesses that can be coached out. The physical attributes are there, so who knows he could be right. I'm a bit worried we'll trigger some obligation to buy clause before we find out for sure though.

Don't think Nuno wants to play with a traditional RB, LB or wingers for that matter (same as Cooper). Width is supposed to come from the RWB, LWB teaming up with the wider forwards. Serge probably isn't perceived to have the legs for it anymore.
It's probably why Mangala didn't get in the team for Nuno's first 2 games and has since left as well. He wants one of his deep lying midfielders to drop into a 3, so the "full backs" can bomb on.
Whoever plays RWB, LWB shouldn't be just judged just on their defensive performance but what they're doing further up the pitch as well.
All IMO of course.

By the looks of it that’s exactly what’s happening. Yates has been the one dropping back and now it’s Danilo. It remains to be seen who will do that most often but Mangala never seemed capable of sending a pass more than 15 yards. Mangala and Aurier would work well together but neither seem like good fits with Nuno’s style.

When you look at the ball for the Awoniyi goal on Tuesday, thats definitely the case, as it was created by Danilo firing the ball long, whereas, I don't think Mangala would have played that.

That is the most thorough transfer announcement I've ever seen. Wish they were all like that.
It has to be said, Gala are renowned for their thoroughness.

Probably my favourite signing since we got back to the top tier. One of the main reasons we stayed up imo.
Dare i say it, one of Kid Maranakis' additions supposedly.
Good luck Serge, even if you did seem to pocket most of the transfer fee.
