Surridge has got a lot better since he’s been out of the team apparently. Second choice striker last year before we spent 40m quid on strikers this summer….

Does anyone genuinely think he is good enough to be a first choice PL striker this season? And we stay up?

Always the case isn't it. Like you say, wasnt considered good enough to start in the Championship when everyone was fit, we are definitely going down if he is now considered a starter in the Premier League. He is a bench option for me.

I strongly believe Surridge would score 10+ goals this season if given the playing time. He's by far our most consistent finisher, and we won't be getting as many chances to score at this level.

He's fast on the counter and links up well with Johnson, too.

Much as we bow to the knowledge and experience of professional football people, many times in the past managers have rejected the claims of players and tactics only to stumble upon them in an emergency or by accident and found that they work.

I think the early days of Cloughie are a great illustration of this when so many of our players who were sidelined to the reserves before he arrived later appeared in startlingly successful teams.

The immediate appeal of Surridge is he isnt Awoniyi.

Dennis is my preferred choice, but given he isnt renound for hold up play, you have to persevere with something more fluid with MGW & Lingard if you go that way.

If your looking for a bona fide focal point then Surridge, irrespective of what transpired last season, still looks a better option.

Tough on Taiwo, but time waits for no man in this league, we need to get something tangible from an attacking perspective pretty quickly with whats going on at the back.

Im not sure what time Awoniyi has had to make a mark? Two starts is it?

Dennis isn't really a striker is he?

I'm sure I read somewhere or heard on the radio the other day that he sees himself as Winger.

Twice as many as Surridge.

Surely, these are all too small samples for all of them?

I acknowledge that Dennis has last season campaign to go on, at least.

I'll add, albeit in the wrong thread, that Taiwo not getting a start came after the arrival of MGW and our subsequent attempts to accommodate him into that frontline, which is only three games in itself.

I think he will force his way back in, but our challenge will be to accommodate JL, BJ and MGW around him, which might be tricky unless Gibbs White is played deeper. Nice problem for Cooper to have/solve though, and whatever he decides is our best approach will have to bear fruit. It'll all come out in the wash...

The lad needs to have a crack at it, he's a natural finisher - If the team behind him are firing and putting balls into his feet in the box I'm confident he'll convert the bag

Taiwo gets the crack at it first. The fact that Surridge wasn't on the bench tells you where he is in the pecking order.

We're not spending millions on new players to then go with those who weren't even first choice last season.

Oh I totally agree, but we should be playing a number 9 every game, so therefore lad should have a crack

How can you say that?. We’ve hardly seen the two that were bought play….

We’ve spent millions to have options and depth. Serge was free and arguably made a bigger impact than the ones costing ££££££££ so forget the price tag and focus on what they can offer.

On the strength of last night, if your looking for someone to keep the ball up there, then Surridge over Awoniyi all day long.
I didn't see it that way either.
I sort of disagree with this. I like Surridge but I think he’s always outmuscled and he was second to the ball a lot. Awoniyi was actually better.
I thought the ball stuck well to Awoniyi last night, as it always seems to in fairness, though sone keep saying he can't trap a ball. Not sure what they're seeing that I don't? Anyhow, his withdrawal last night suggests he's in for Saturday I think.
