Sammy Ameobi

Haych

John Robertson
262 competitive appearances and 22 goals in 11 years as a professional footballer. His transfer fees amount to a massive £0.

I hope Warnock has worked out which game in 10 he’ll score in

Correct if I’m wrong, but we made very few goal scoring chances from playing aerial balls to him.

We made very few goal scoring chances at all.

Saying we didn't create chances from aerial balls to Ameobi is akin to saying the decoration scheme in cabin 105 resulted in the Titanic sinking.

True but his abilty to hold off defenders and keep possession of the ball is one of his biggest strengths. He's not completely useless with his head either. See his goal at Stoke.

Ironically last season Ameobi lost the most amount of possession per game out of any forest player. Holding possession wasn’t a key strength of his. His key strengths were amount of dribbles attempted and Ariel duels.

You see this is what I don’t understand people see in Ameobi because all the statistical indicators don’t suggest he’s an attacking threat. I know stats aren’t everything but I watched him first and just by watching I noticed he was so inconsistent in everything he did
I just don’t understand the mournful attitude of some. I get the he’s a useful backup sentiments but it’s not someone we are going to miss.

People said the same about Watson, McGugan, Osborn and many others who we clearly missed in following seasons.

For me too many people are jumping the gun assuming Sammy will be replaced by better. If he is that's great. But you can't blame those who have been bitten before being weary of it dude.

But with Brennan Johnson returning I think we already have. Mighten is just as good at the moment and only improving.

Big gamble to rely on several young players like that without backup though IMO.

I think the sensible approach is to bring them through with a cheap, experienced player on hand to step in if need be.

But we'll see. It's early days yet.

Its not a gamble though as Mighten had just as many contributions per minute as Ameobi did last season. So the only gamble is Brennan Johnson and I am guranteeing you if you offered all the managers in the championship Ameobi or Johnson on a free not one would choose Ameobi.

Thats just my view, a lot rests on Lolley next season as well because we need 2 frontline wingers and Ameobi wasnt certainly good enough for that.
