Re: Richie Laryea

Looking about the internet, I have gathered:

He currently earns the equivalent of £3.2k basic a week. Expiry date of the contract he signed in June 2020 was undisclosed, although both the FIFA 22 and Football Manager 21 computer games speculate that it could have just finished on Dec 31st 2021, which would make this a free transfer I guess?

Is considered amongst the best right-backs in MLS, although was converted from a defensive midfielder. Can play left-back too and is comfortable using both feet,

Drew interest from Besiktas last summer as a result of a recommendation from Canadian team-mate and Besiktas stalwart Atiba Hutchinson,

He’s always dreamed of playing in Europe,

He scores statistically highly for touches in the opposition box and progressive (forward) runs (definitely matches up with the profile of a wing-back or attacking RB in the Spence mould),

He’s short (either 5”7 or 5”9 depending on reports), fast, turns 27 this Friday, is married with a son who turns 3 next month and is of Ghanaian parentage. Has 22 caps and 1 goal for Canada.

Fifa 22 rank is 71 if that means anything to anyone.

If he’s coming in on a free transfer and earning under 10k a week, this looks like a decent signing who can cover a couple of positions to me….

Edit: Canadian media seem to think he’s still under contract, so guess we’ll be paying a fee.

He sounds exactly what we need, honestly this transfer panel is a breath of fresh air. All transfer panels get things wrong but it all depends on the amount of hits. What’s a breath of fresh air is we are not shackled anymore to mendes or Oly rejects. It’s a much more holistic approach now.

We are desperate for pacey wing back backups so this on the face of things is a good signings. However not seen him play yet and of course he could turn out a dud but let’s see. He has attributes that we need which is a positive.

Please don't call them a 'Panel'. Some of us have PTSD.

A 'Brain Trust', a 'collective', a 'Group'...anything you like except a 'panel'.
It was once called a panel but it should have been a Transfer Inquiry Team.

I read he can play RB/LB and in midfield somewhere which is very helpful especially when people are dropping like flies at the minute to injuries or the C word.

Turned down contract at Toronto of about 13-14k a week, so I imagine he will be on something similar here. That’s sustainable, especially as he can play two positions.

Effectively gives us options at full back with Spence & Lowe.
Tutu to be sent back?

You should travel south a few hours, it's a tropical -24 here; we're all down to wearing just one set of winter gloves.

Did an exercise with Canadian troops in the Rockies some years ago and enjoyed it so much that I decided to emigrate over there. Got married instead, but that's another story.

Not sure if I would have enjoyed -40!

I feel your discomfort CR.

Perhaps we can just acknowledge this one (along with Ojeda previously) as a result of the Murphy/Syrianos analysis-driven recruitment operation?

The Mad-ro/Sad-ro?

It doesn't abbreviate well, but I'll allow it.

Re: Richie Laryea

We shouldn't use such swear words such as the A word and the P word, for a start we wouldn't sign anyone and drag it to the last day for a player to find out he has come to a Circus and the wages have been reduced and or they fail an eye test etc.

This will be the 3rd singing fingers crossed and it's only the 6th of Jan how bloody welcome is this? Get them in early start training rather than end of the month.

I spent 8 weeks in Calgary from mid Dec to mid Feb. Nice city actually but I really don't understand how people can live in those weather conditions.

The thing I like about the video is he looks so comfortable on the ball. He doesn't look awkward either side.

He also puts up very good numbers from wing back (another pointer we want to play back 3 as a main system). 18 goal contributions in 85 games, that is very impressive from a defensive player.

Also another player that we are taking advantage of the new WP rules where he wouldn't have been able to sign prior, same with Odeja

I’m pretty sure Laryea would have qualified for an old style work permit. He’s been a regular starter for Canada, who are ranked 40 in the world. That would have been enough to get him a WP under the old rules.

If he puts in the same effort as our last Canadian full back I'll be pleased, Jim Brennan always gave his all.
