If he’s as good as our last Canadian full-back, it’s a yes from me.

Re: Richie Laryea

I too am an Edmonton dweller, and in a valiant effort to stay warm have just finished my second hot bath of the day.

Glad to see Laryea is being linked. Haven't seen a lot of him to be honest, but watched the Canada v Mexico World Cup qualifying game here recently and he stood out, in my opinion, mainly for his pace and desire. Thought he was mostly neat and tidy defensively, although not tested much by Mexico until the end of the game (they really didn't fancy the cold weather or plastic pitch).

Here's hoping he's a Forest player soon! If it all works out, I guess all we have to figure out is where we'll watch the play off final...

People in Newcastle would be wearing shorts & no tops

Was living in Geordie land for a few years and must have rubbed off on me as funnily enough, that's what I've been in most of the day.

Richie Laryea

Looking about the internet, I have gathered:

He currently earns the equivalent of £3.2k basic a week. Expiry date of the contract he signed in June 2020 was undisclosed, although both the FIFA 22 and Football Manager 21 computer games speculate that it could have just finished on Dec 31st 2021, which would make this a free transfer I guess?

Is considered amongst the best right-backs in MLS, although was converted from a defensive midfielder. Can play left-back too and is comfortable using both feet,

Drew interest from Besiktas last summer as a result of a recommendation from Canadian team-mate and Besiktas stalwart Atiba Hutchinson,

He’s always dreamed of playing in Europe,

He scores statistically highly for touches in the opposition box and progressive (forward) runs (definitely matches up with the profile of a wing-back or attacking RB in the Spence mould),

He’s short (either 5”7 or 5”9 depending on reports), fast, turns 27 this Friday, is married with a son who turns 3 next month and is of Ghanaian parentage. Has 22 caps and 1 goal for Canada.

Fifa 22 rank is 71 if that means anything to anyone.

If he’s coming in on a free transfer and earning under 10k a week, this looks like a decent signing who can cover a couple of positions to me….

Edit: Canadian media seem to think he’s still under contract, so guess we’ll be paying a fee.

Do you go to Gregg's in your pyjamas and dressing gown? ;)

No, but I have been in a pair of shorts and nothing else though.

(Edit: Actually I think I got a pizza from a disgusting takeaway in Hyde Park area in Leeds in my PJ's once but I was off my tits and had no shame).

I guess I’ll get him on a jersey if we end up getting him.

Excited if this happens, highly rated in the MLS and in Canada who have finally awaken on the national stage.

He also played for my alma mater, the University of Akron. Come on you mighty Zips!

It will be interesting to see how he fits in our system. Long term you'd imagine he is a replacement for Spence but I don't think this lad is coming in to sit on the bench for the rest of this season.

Re: Richie Laryea

About £750,000 according to reports. Roughly the same as it cost to bring in Paul McKenna way back when. Hope he has the same impact.

He can play left back as well (as he does for his country) so I'd imagine he'll get games there whilst Spence is still here.

This and the Jed Wallace thing just came out of nowhere yesterday, you wonder what today will bring.

The Laryea deal was kept under wraps until yesterday (when it seemed practically done) too. The club are going about their business quietly and efficiently with minimal fuss so far, which is great to see.
