Remo Marco Freuler + Trains thread

Played 90 mins tonight in midfield as Switzerland won in Spain 2-1...

Yet can't get in the side ahead of Yates until last week and saw Colback coming on ahead of him 😆
Well he's played much, much worse than Yates when he has played, so it makes sense.

The goal is a bonus but the sheer fact that he's an automatic starter for a very good European nation who are getting good results is clear evidence that he has more than enough talent to be a key member of our team. If he isn't then that's our failing.

And as much as I love Cooper I don't think it'll take much longer before it really starts to grate on both the Greeks and the fans if Freuler is axed in favour of Yates or Kouyate (for example)

It's about fitting players into the team and building tactics that allow them to work together, Freuler so far has looked like a fish out of water but that is probably down to us playing a very different system to what he is used to being in.

We signed these players because they were Prem quality, supposedly.

Freuler has demonstrated he has international pedigree. Why therefore has he not been selected for our struggling team?

Sorry to say it, but Coops is beginning to lose some of the shine. We desperately need a good result, or even just a good performance against Leicester.

Looked like he was struggling to adapt when he did play. He has the quality to do so, but in terms of age is quite a late-comer to the 'English game', which can be very different to both the Serie A and International football.

I thought it was/is quite interesting that we took one of Atalanta's best players and .... they're top of Serie A

Similarly we took Union Berlin's top scorer and ..... they're top of the Bundesliga

TBF it was pretty likely with the numbers recruited! And no, I'm not making a statement about the players, just thought it was oddly amusing

I only wonder why they wanted to offload them mate.

Of course you are right Yeezy.

Sadly I think Coops is his own worst enemy in that hes sticking doggedly to his guns, tactics and players in the face of bad results and even worse performances. When the midfield is as poor as ours has been you can't just hope for a change in fortune and when you have a top international midfielder sitting on the bench it doesn't look good.

Based on their last performances in Forest shirts, Id be playing Kouyate over Freuler.

I agree with Mase here. Freuler has all the pedigree in the world, but in his limited game time so far, Freuler has done nothing to earn the shirt from his 'less talented' competitors.

The intensity of the EPL is not favourable to a 30 year old defensive midfielder playing in a highly demanding midfield 2, it's not as simple as 'well he's a Swiss international so he should be playing here'

Football isn't as black and white as a lot of people seem to think it is, as we've seen in the few displays so far he's seemingly struggled to cover the ground necessary to play as part of our 'two'. Unless we change formation entirely to free up an extra spot in midfield I don't see him being the answer

Agreed. He's struggled because we are overrun in the midfield. There's few players in world football who would look genuinely good in our current set up.

The sooner we move to a back four and midfield three, the sooner we will find out how good our players actually are.

Whatever we decide to do we need to start competing more in midfield. We'll go down for certain if we lose the midfield battle each week.
I also think an extra man in midfield might allow the two so-called wing backs a bit more freedom to attack - currently they’re both too contained and don’t add that extra dimension to an attack

So you want 3 at the back, wing backs & 3 in midfield?
We trying to play for a series of 0-0 draws?
