Remo Marco Freuler + Trains thread

So you want 3 at the back, wing backs & 3 in midfield?
We trying to play for a series of 0-0 draws?
If it gives the wing backs more freedom it won't be restrictive.

You could argue that Zinks was midfielder last season anyway. Three attacking will only work if the work rate of the three is higher than it currently is.

I don't understand the modern system. If we play three at the back that leaves us seven players to juggle with. Surely, it's not beyond the whit of man to fit these players into a harmonious formation giving us more players in the midfield.

If not, I give up. Just allow the season to peter out with a whimper.

Just allowing the wingbacks to play as attacking midfielders allows four in midfield, surely. And why do we need three strikers?

Agree with comment on Zinc,

I see Fulham play 2 in centre midfield but then when they're not in possession, Pereira drops and presses, not too dissimilar from Zinc.

Can MGW press like that, haven't seen it yet and not sure that's his game.

It is tough with an extra CM because we might lose a bit going forward with Lingard/MGW if they're dropped, lots for Cooper to ponder and some big decisions to make

Has he singed yet?
I'm very disappointed we're not talking about trains in this thread anymore.

Can we find a way to shoehorn Freuler, Mangala & O’Brien into the same starting X1.
Just feels like a winning combination to me..
No shoe horning, a midfield 3 is what we need and they all offer all slightly different abilities which is great.

If we continue to sacrifice midfield for 3 CBs who are struggling and 2 wingbacks which are being pressed back we will continue to lose.

In midfield setups with three midfielders, there's always a need for an unsung hero, a player who makes the formation click and has a quick mind and a safe first pass. This kind of players usually are not very attractive to the spectator, and rarely get credit for their work, but they are essential for managers. Freuler knows his beans.

I honestly thought you were talking about John McGovern there GBG. But you're correct about unsung heroes

No coincidence how much more solid we have been with him in the team

Covered the most distance on the pitch today too.

Seriously?

Thought Yates, MGW and Kouyate and Williams (pro rata) would have won that.

He’s an international for a good team, and former captain of a champions league team. A couple of weeks ago he was too shit for Forest according to some people.

Funny how a bit of time to adapt can change things.
I think he suits a three man midfield, in a two he is being asked to do too much physical stuff more suited to Yates.

Unsung hero is correct. A lot of what he does goes under the radar. He just sits, organises and then keeps things ticking over in possession, everything one and two touch
