Remo Marco Freuler + Trains thread

Some suggested he wasn't a Cooper signing. Who would turn down someone as calm on the ball?

We'll see more of this as the months go. We've bought good players, they just need time to gel.

Played well today, he’s very calm on the ball and will only get better when he’s more used to the league.

Yep, he did indeed - BT showed the stat at the end. Yates was second. Your surprise there is testament to the ‘conductor’ nickname that Atalanta fans gave to him; making the whole thing tick whilst often going under the radar.

Just thought he did his good work in front of the defence in a reasonably small area where as Yates and Kouyate were tasked with getting forward more often. MGW was busting a gut all over the Liverpool half in the final ten minutes, was thinking he must be dying inside having to chase down lost cause after lost cause like he did.

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
This signing obviously wasn’t one of the former recruitment teams then…

He just goes about his work, unhurried and without fuss.

He is the kind of midfield orchestrator you don’t really notice unless you’re looking, but his influence is massive.

Abit more of the unnoticed one of the midfield three but he kept things ticking along nicely. He reminds abit of a Paul McKenna
I made a similar comparison, makes tackles, passes it sideways & rarely loses posession. Dictates the tempo if you will.

Your right about him being unnoticed, I forget he's playing, but he's starting to boss the stats so he's clearly contributing.

That's the 2nd game running as he covered the most ground v Brighton as well.

You love to see it.

Paul McKenna was always visible, he spent half the match in the ref's ear! Freuler goes about his business quietly.

Someone else mentioned this, too, McKenna was a Championship footballer. Freuler a seasoned International. The comparison would be offensive to him!

It is becoming clear that we have options in the midfield. Hopefully Coops can utilise them well.

I thought mckenna was great during his time here, and while you can't really compare the two in terms of accomplishments, for us guys under 40 he's sadly the best comparison we have to past players in a Forest shirt

I mean its either him or Perch *shudders*

It's all about mid-table...

If that's not a Skysports brainwashed post I don't know what is ! 😆

McKenna was fukin top notch as a Captain and team player.

Paul McKenna was the nearest I could compare to as well. Just that additional speed of thought and pass

Way better than McKenna - who never played in the EPL I believe. Reminds me of Terry Wilson before he got injured; who was very highly rated by the other players of that generation.

That's why I caveat it with Freulers speed of thought and his passing. He does everything McKenna did but with such speed and awareness. That alone can be the difference between a plying your trade a division lower or becoming an international.

McKenna was absolutely mustard at what he did just at a slower pace or with an an extra touch or two

Agreed - I’d also throw into the mix that I’m absolutely certain he’s played a big part in Yatesy’s improvement. He knows where to be, is calm but quick on the ball and he puts his foot in rather than being out of control in the tackle - Ryan is a quick learner, having Freuler alongside him has made a big difference to Ryan imo.
