Remo Marco Freuler + Trains thread

Barry

Where's me hammer?
There's only two sleepers in the UK now, Caledonian Sleeper (London to Scotland) and GWR's Night Riviera (London to Penzance).

Yes, I am a loser.
Read about the sleeper to London a few weeks back where folk boarded the train, it was delayed they went to sleep and woke up still broke down in the same station in Scotland.

I used to take the Sleeper from Liverpool to London occasionally when I worked down there.

Used to get on an just after 11. It would pull out of Lime St and into a siding, then stay there until 4am and then would go direct to London.

On more that one occasion the tractor unit was detached and went somewhere else but a replacement never turned up.

Could just about see my house from the siding too.

In me early 20s I once fell asleep pissed up on the 28 bus from town to Carlton, by the time I woke up it doubled back & I woke up at the terminus in f***ing Bilbrough, expensive taxi ride back to Carlton

After a Crimbo work do in Brum I fell asleep on the train & woke up in the railway sidings at Derby, had to phone BR to let me off the train as it was all locked, they shit their pants & paid for my taxi back to Nottingham, my wife went ballistic at me because we were flying to Spain in the morning

Anyone know how Freuler has been looking in training this week? Maybe in for a quick ride tomorrow?

When I lived in Carlton, the 27 was my ride home, and I often boarded that in an absolutely terrible state after a night out in town.

It was a common occurrence to be absolutely hanging when grabbing a 27 on King Street, and collapsing into a seat, and hoping that you could rouse yourself when the bus got to Carlton Square.

Still the 25 and 27 now but rather strangely the 100 is now the 26. Not sure why they changed that.

I thought the 24 & 25 went around to Gedling along Westdale Lane & 27 & 28 were Carlton terminus

Not that I give a shit anyway because these days I just get the wife to fetch me

They do, and the 25 carries on through Westdale up to Mapperley top and down Breck Hill into Arnold (Though it's quicker from either Mapperley or Arnold to Carlton Square to go into the city and back out again unless you time a 25 right). The 27 heads up Cavendish to the forum and stops there. Not sure about the 28, guess that's not a thing at the moment or isn't round here. They used to head across from Carlton through town and out to Wollaton Park (or was that the 27) about 25 yrs back, I think they ended up putting the 28s down Ilkeston Road into Bilborough. The 26 heads through Carlton and Gedling and out to Southwell (one of 2/3 NCT services which leave the city).

I haven't been on a bus for ages though

Lucca is also amazing.

Bagni di Lucca is really close to there and If anyone is into canyoning or just pissing about in crystal blue water that’s surrounded by canyon it’s an amazing little adventure place.

If anyone ever visits Parma, please make the trip to the famous Chelsea Pub, a football haven in a football mad city.

They do cracking beers and lovely open sandwiches too.

Oh, and amongst their collection of footy memorabilia, they’ve got a Forest scarf pinned to the wall.

Yeah, I’ll give you one guess.

He has a points though.

Does this signal the end of the train talk?

Wrong side of the Tardini for me, which probably explains why I’ve not been there as we make a point of patronising as many of the local places as possible en route to a game.

I just have to leave earlier I think.

I've visited China a few times (mainly Shanghai) over the years, and have always been amazed at the rate of development and change every time I've been there.

Agree re H&S, never has been a priority for the Chinese!
They go up at an impressive rate but they also collapse at a similar rate.

Every other day huge structures in China fall down and cause large deaths. They’ll get rid of the rubble within a day though, from the governments POV it’s a waste of time and money building them properly.

I see this thread has been shunted back to the top of the list again this morning?

I‘ll just have to ticket off and carry on with the others.

Mention of Gedling and tunnels reminds me of those far off days when I first started to follow Forest. Living in Woodthorpe (Melbury Road when it was first developed and Somersby Road was just a cart track) we used to walk over the hill, disturbing the sky larks, past the orchard stopping to scrump a few apples, to the tunnel from which the trains climbing out of Gedling colliery would emerge. After each train had passed we would pop out onto the tracks to collect the coal which had fallen from the trucks. We were poor, but life was fun and we were alive.
