If players like Lingard and Gibbs-White are your targets for the no 10 position, your answer about why Zinc was sent to the poor cousin is easily answered...
Yes Greek, targets are one thing, signings another!.
I think we missed a trick letting Zink go too. Particularly at the price he was at. Even if you look at him as one you keep in the event of relegation (a bit like the Huddersfield boys)-it seems to me a no-brainer to bring him in.
But there we are, and as someone else has said we are backing our recruitment strategy 100% this summer. Its sort of shit or bust....

Best of luck to Zink's, he gave us his best, great team player and nice guy, bet he is not too disappointed in living in Greece!!

The financial risk was higher for us every season we were in the Championship

If we go down and don’t come back up then we sell the numerous young players that we now have to balance the books.

He's a quality player. I still think if we're going for either JL or MGW this chap would be the ideal back up/alternative.
I do not disagree, but the player himself obviously did not want to be a back up. He's been a starter (if not a leading player) in all the clubs he's played so far, with the exception of Watford, which is why he left from there.

It is no accident that he got the no 10 shirt over here.

It's simply stunning how bad Zinc has been playing over here. Not even a shadow of the player he was last season; it's even worse. He can't dribble, he can't create for others or himself, he can't pass the ball, he can't protect the ball, he can't cross the ball, he can't steal the ball, nothing. He is visibly frustrated himself by how bad he's playing, but nothing seems to work.

He had spells for us where nothing came off for him - hope he can get going again for you as there's a useful player in there.

That's sad to hear 😞 He always did have moments like that but usually they didn't last longer than half a match. Hope he gets it together!

Rumoured to be joining Standard Liege on loan already .Unsure of accuracy of the rumours as I'm using the translation button on Twitter of rejoicing Olympiakos fans!

It's not a rumour, it will be made official very soon. As I told you, he has been spectacularly bad over here. Nothing seems to be working for him. A new environment was the only solution.

It's weird how a move just sours some players.

Cheers GBG, I thought that this one might be one to beat the curse of players that play for us flopping with you by virtue of the fact that he was never actually our player to begin with!

Its a shame really but at least it was recognised quite quickly.

Sad it hadn't worked out fir tidy hair Pip - it's a shame that for a second season (running? I lose track) he's got a side up to the level he wants to be at, only to find himself surplus to requirements.

I wonder if that's had something of an impact on him mentally. Might explain his form in Greece where I thought/hoped he would do well.

FWIW I'd have retained him last year, though with JL and MGW we've two significant upgrades so no complaints here to why we didn't. Hope he can get his game back on track though as there's an effective player there, in terms of balance of attacking and defensive contribution in an advanced role - team player.

As much as they're upgrades in possession they weaken the side without the ball. Zinks got through so much off the ball work. We're clearly missing that work ethic so far and we need the new boys to buy into it quickly.

I see the same work ethic from both upgrades in fairness, what I don't see yet, understandably, is the team working defensively as a system. Let's hope that comes sooner rather than later.

Well, at least if we do get relegated, that’s Lingard’s replacement sorted…..
